Advice on larder fridge

I am new to the stalking scene and as we move into summer fully appreciate that hanging deer in the garage might become more unwise than it all ready is.

Could anyone recommend a larder fridge which would allow me to hang a carcass. I recon I would need to hang no more than 2 at any time.

Any and all advice welcomed.

Any tall larder fridge from gumtree will do, just pull the shelves and put a bar across the top shelf slider moulds, it needs to be no more complex than that. The open top fruit and veg drawer acts as a blood collection with the necks going in there

£40 or so, job done

Agree with Triggertrix as above. Try to get a fridge with decent side moulds that will take a crossbar. Dont start drilling into the wall of the fridge unless you need to - it can be a whole world of hurt if you bugger it up.

My set up is x3 galvanised roofing struts cable tied together. Simple as that.

One up from a domestic fridge is a newsagent drinks fridge with a glass door. They usually go for a fair bit more however and are a pain to move on your own.

If you get a good one however they’ll go on for years. Had my Coca Coms fridge since 2017 and it’s never missed a beat.

Find your local commercial kitchen suppliers and see if they have a second hand chiller. None of this drilling rubbish. They are tall enough for Sika. I hang them off the top shelf which has been "trimmed" so I can get a hook on it. I can get 2 sika in and if I was being enthusiastic I could probably manage 3. I had a Red Hind in it once, not entirely sure how I manage it but there you go.

That’s how I’ve set mine up; it’s a bit of a bodge but works fine. There’s a strip of 50x25 pine running across the top that the eyed bolts go through to spread the load fully. I sealed it up with silicone & it’s worked fine for me.

Is that a fan in yours/Is it needed to have a fan? I'm in the beginning stages of searching myself.

Be aware the the classification of tall seems to be 165 cm, best to go for one at least 180 cm in height. This cost £50 on gumtree 6 years ago and I just drilled through the sides to fit the bar. Never had any issues with20191110_091344.webp not having a fan

I paid £100 for mine and it came, from a dealer, with six months warranty. Be careful you buy one that is suitable for use in a garage or outside building. Not all fridges are. You can buy a conversion kit for a few quid that lets you fit a cross bar and air vents. Very easy to fit. You just need a drill and the relevant bits and pieces. I am no DIY man and I have done two of them.

It is indeed, I added it to keep air moving a bit more, especially when I’ve got a couple of carcasses in there.
It’s a simple USB-powered fan (thus the black cable to it) inside an acrylic mount that I laser-cut & heat bent before screwing to the fridge roof.

Got any links? £100 seems mighty cheap from a dealer with a warranty.

Also any links to these conversion kits? I'm also in the market for a cheap '2 roe' fridge / chiller but am not much for DIY in these things.

I am sorry my friend. I have tried and tried to find you a link but can't find one for the kit. I purchased my rail a long while ago, it is on second fridge. You simply drill two rail size holes, one in each wall, cut the rail and fit it in with the end secured by exterior cups with bolt going to expanding nut inside the rail. Takes about half an hour for a useless DIY bloke like me. But I just can't find one. They do exist because I have a munty hanging on mine at the moment. It was probably on the dreaded EBAY where I do most of my shopping for such things.
The fridge came from a dealer in Ipswich. Google used fridges and Ipswich.
Sorry I can't help more.

Hi pal
Could you please point me in the direction of these conversion kits

I got a stainless steel rod that was slightly longer than the fridge is wide to hang my roe deer.

I have had my conversion kit for years. I have tried all over the net and I can't find one being advertised now. Sorry I can't remember where I got it from but it was definitely off the web.
Any piece of strong metal tube would do the job. Drill the required holes in the sides of the unit and slide the pipe across. Seal the ends with gunk and your are in business.
If I can find it again I will let you know mate.

If your fridge has a coiled tube type thermostat it won’t work well in a cooler location. Keith/ Sikadog (RIP mate) helped me out with that - simple bit of insulation (a handful of glass fibre from the loft) taped around it worked a treat.

Internal bar - I went industrial strength. 25 quid and cut to size. With two screw in hangers.

👍 of the USB fan in a SH larder fridge.
Cools the carcass nice and evenly.
