Alpha brass

I currently use a couple of 6.5’s in the mighty creedmoor (stop laughing at the back! )

For my stalking rifle I use Lapua brass, and so I could differentiate between the two, for my target brass I used Starline, it’s served me will and has been pretty faultless. I decided recently to upgrade a little so bought some Alpha brass for the target loads…on running my Arc expander die/mandrel through them (.262”) I noticed they feel a little rough when doing so, and also when seating the bullets (ELD-M’s)….i chamfered inside and outside on the ones I loaded…still the same, it just has a roughness to it….anyone seen this with Alpha brass? Could it just be due to it being new and maybe a little rough in the neck ID? I’d be a bit disappointed if that’s the case! Supposed to be ultra premium brass!

Don't have any issues with Alpha brass (other than getting hold of it). I have had good response from the email on the front of the box on a previous query if you do wish to raise it with them

It’s because it is annealed and not tumbled after. Lapua must do something after annealing.

There is oxidation on a save after induction annealing I only realised this after watching the primal rights video and checking for it this morning when doing some 7mm SAUM brass.

I’ve bought 600 ADG 7mm SAUM and I’m very impressed with it. Just getting through some Norma brass before I swap.

Yes. I emailed them. Mine was felt rough as, so huge forces to seat bullets.

They suggested wet tumbling with some metal polish mixed in. I don't have a wet tumbler. Cheapskate.

I do have some graphite powder so stuck some of that in a small container with 28gr of 8 shot and just dip the necks three times. Seating forces are hugely reduced. I have yet to test that I get consistent velocities though.

It is certainly premium brass wi some of the loads I have been running in 65CM

Tumble them (dry media) with some liquid car wax in the media (mix the media nd wax first, before putting in the brass). The wax will coat the insides of the neck and give a smoother, more consistent neck tension.
