Any ideas ....

So I went to pick some furniture up from a guy selling his late parents house, when I got there he had a very old rifle on the bed that was in the attic. He's made contact with the police but I'm not sure he needs to surrender it due to it age. Anyway I said I'd ask on here if anyone had any ideas.
It's a percussion cap rifle I believe

Judging by the rust I can see around the trigger in those pictures the bore is likely to be FUBAR too, so I'd say it might be best to surrender it and have it destroyed anyway. Unless the guy wants to keep it as a curio and it's over 100 yrs old, whereby no licence required I believe.

Others with better knowledge may well be along shortly, of course ;)
