hi l look for a new moderator one of the freyr &devik one but l have some bad report about the Baffle stack and tube: any views would help . thanks

Not had any problems with mine. The only thing to watch out for is it sticking together but some ceramic grease on the threads stops that.

Other than that I have it on my sauer 404 in 308 and I can't even notice its there. The sound reduction and recoil reduction is well above what I expected of it.

Fantastic bit if kit

I have one on a 243 couple 100 rds and fine so far , prone to sticking together but clean every use fine .

On my second one used on a .223.The first showed signs of gas cutting through the central bor of the stack. It was cleaned after every use. It was replaced free of charge. The second one is doing the same. The other one I have is on a 6.5 with no issues. Both have fired similar amounts of rounds. Great noise reduction and light. The one showing the gas cutting will last for a few more years. I do think for the cost they should be better.

I started what turned into a lengthy thread on this subject as one who had had the above mentioned bad experience.
What I can say is I suspect the issues were a bad batch in production as the replacement baffle stack I got is currently showing no signs of wear having had a similar amount of use to the one which corroded, so I can only say I am currently back in the “in support of” camp.
Their U.K. distributor I do not have a good word to say about however, but that’s not what is being asked. As to performance I have to say I love it, it’s quiet, balances well and you would t know it was there, apart from no ringing ears.
Would I buy another, probably. Am I annoyed they marketed it as a “titanium” mod when the only titanium on it is a tiny proportion and is the thread section and not the hard wearing baffle stack as they would have had you believe but then there are pros and cons to whatever metal you go with and ultimately they will all wear out with enough use/time.

Despite the “negative” press I bought a FW196 for my .308 and boy am I pleased I did! I see mods as consumables and if you think about it, they do live a very hard life! For range use, I use a Wilcat Evo but when stalking, I t’s always the F&D. I’m so impressed I bought a FW149 for my shortened (20”) Sako .243 and it has transformed into my go to roe/muntjac rifle. Like all costly kit, it pays to look after them and remember, it’s no T8 so don’t hammer it!

(Anyone know why my pictures rotate when inserted from my iPad?)

I have one, had it about 2.5 years, no issues and clean as a whistle. Takes 2 seconds to dismantle, squirk with wd40 and wipe clean after every outing (if fired).

I moved from an ASE5 and the difference in weight totally transformed the balance of my rifle

I have a couple of FW mods and I’ve been very happy I have a super light one on my 6.5 (149?) and whilst I’ve had quieter mods it for stalking and it’s so light and still quiet enough for me. I have the bigger ( 269?) that’s amazingly quiet and on my 308 has take a few knocks but Done well.

There is no witchcraft involved with F&D mods as some of the previous postings may suggest. They are as quiet as their size and weight allow. My F&D 196 is good enough for the purpose on a .308 out in the field but it would be insufficient on a .270. So, yes, I would recommend them but don‘t expect any miracles.

I have stopped to clean mine. The cleaner they are the more they wear. The shroud covering the baffle stack even started to rattle when the mod was clean.

hi just one more about the moderator what is the warrant on them . thanks
@Cluny Country are the UK agent, might be worth giving them a call

just be aware that if you don't clean it for a wee while you will struggle to get the cover off the baffle stack. I had to sail mine in a wd40 soaked rag for 24hrs to get it to shift

Ha, ha, I don‘t intend to take the bloody thing apart ever again.😁

Where have you had your 5th leg from out of interest?

Do they steady you up a fair bit ? I'm not too bad on the sticks but just wondering if one of these would help with those longer shots
If the situation allows you the time to deploy them they make it very stable - these were taken yesterday whilst out stalking using my Sako 75/Thermion set-up. On balance, I find the benefit of having it attached outweighs the increase in weight and I'm finding for all but the rapid-reaction shots, I use them most times I shoot off sticks which is about 95% of my stalking shots.
