Anyone else busy with "game" birds.

The trouble with the modern" game gun "is they really are not aware of what goes into a real game shoot,......... even the old timer posh nobs were aware of the work put in,.... a sign of the times probably!

Ours aren't coming for a few weeks yet, and the pens are in pretty good shape, so just a bit of sprucing up required.:-D

Roll on October...!!:D

My syndicate have a work day so they can strip the rearing field and put it all away again .We start at 0900 and finish about 12.30pm ish . They all need a cup of tea when they are done and then give themselves a pat on the back for getting it done in 3 hours or so !

What they dont seem to grasp is that it took me 4 days to get it to the stage where they could finish it in 3 hours !! lolol

Just put up 100+ ex-layers on saturday as the weather has been great...then today ****ed down with rain. Checked them a couple of hours ago and they seemed fine and a couple of local cock birds had rounded a few of them up.

My 1st year of putting birds down so learning curve acometh!

Having done the annual repairs to our main pen, Strimming Nettles, re wiring holes in the fence etc we have just got done putting down 1,700 this weekend. Always like the look of a pen full of young'uns :-D

well my babies will arive this week, cue torrental rain and an influx of vermin such as fife will not have seen since god were a lad... still least its only 2000 last 2 jobs have envolved 35000 and 20000 head of game. Bliss:roll:

Just finished putting up the release pens on the estate I used to work on, thankfully just get the pens ready now no involvement with the birds when I worked there 16 full time keepers now 1 plus casual help and they expect the same results its a joke.

Just dug in & fixed chicken wire around one of the pens, noticed fox & rabbits had attempted digging under the wire. Hot work Sunday digging the trench though, was glad of a couple of pints after! :D

cant really start our lamping yet only got about 8-10 fields to lamp at the moment which are grazed, waiting for the combine, but so far no sign of charlie but im sure there will be 1 or 2 about.problem we"ve got is mink.8 to 10 killed around one pen and about half a dozen around another, thats what we"ve found so far:suss:.Only thing we haven"t got out for them is trip wires, just hope that we get the ******* things.

I don't envy you all! Looking after a huge number of pheasants last year(100)I have greatest admiration for those who look after them, the stress of trying to keep them alive and trying to stop every other critter from eating them nearly killed me off last year, NEVER AGAIN!!
I think that game birds are related to sheep, they have this inherent capability of finding new and ingenious ways to die..

That is oh so right,
