Anyone else had the Covid jab...

I think the UK effort to get people vaccinated is awesome. Not just the fact we have something north of 8million already having at least one jab but the fact we had the orders and logistics in place to ensure we were well positioned to get the ball rolling as quick as possible.

This last year has been awash with our brain dead media finding fault with every minute detail but they should be celebrating our success at vaccination. Superb and wonderful effort.

Well done to all involved. The folk who made the vaccine, the people delivering it, the surgeries, the nurses, the makers of zillions of needles and syringes and the folk who are booking their appts and getting their arses to the places to get jabbed.

Both my parents had theirs ten days ago, no adverse reactions. Their appointments were 1/2 hr apart but on arriving they mentioned this to one of the marshals and were told to go in together. The lady on reception juggled the paperwork and they went in together JABS done.

My wife’s Aunt & Uncle, both late eighties received invites for vaccination.
From Liphook, one had to travel to Petersfield, the other had to go to Guildford!
At Petersfield they gave Aunt a credit card sized card with a batch number on for the jab she’d received.
Uncle got jabbed and when told he could go he enquired about a confirmation card they told him he didn’t need one.
Since then he has been told he should have been offered the Batch #.

When I had my first jab I experienced just an aching arm in the area of the jab, that still persists to this day.
The day after my 2nd jab I started with aches and pains in my arms, legs and somewhat in my torso.
Those disappeared over the course of a week+.
As of today, i feel slightly different somehow but can’t put my finger on anything in particular.
I had the Novavax one.

My father (86) had the first jab on Christmas Eve. My mother-in-law (87) had hers two weeks ago. My sister and niece - both NHS workers - had theirs two weeks ago too.

My niece then had a positive test, so please be aware that the injection does not give you immediate immunity. She recovered in a few days.

Where I live they have now completed the injections to the point they are easing back and getting the vaccines to neighbouring areas to get the most vulnerable there injected too.

The vaccination campaign is a quite remarkable achievement.

Very sorry to hear that Jim - our thoughts and prayers are with you. Hope your Dad makes a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear about your father I hope he’s on the mend. My father in law has had three heart attacks and at one point he was clinically dead. Several stents and a bypass and two years on he’s out and about on the yard mucking out horses and fixing fences It is remarkable how good medical science is now and just how resilient people are keep positive and I’m sure given time he will improve. By the way my father and my father in law have both had there first jabs and no issues to report. That was both last week

Sorry to hear about your Dad, hope he recovers as well as possible. Had a word with the boss as she has been doing some of our local vaccinations.... She would advise your Dad gets advice from his GP or (better still) his cardiology team - no obvious reason why it would be contra indicated, but sometimes you're on a lot of new meds post MI so a bit of clinical advice from Docs/pharmacists would be best.

The boss had her vaccine without any problems and hasn't heard of any major issues as yet, avoid if you're pregnant/planning it, previous allergies or carry an epipen, have a any underlying immune diseases/problems...... the vaccine doesn't prevent Covid -19 it reduces the potential harm and it reduces the chances of spreading the virus, so please remember to stick with the hands/face/space bit for the time being.

Thank you very much gents ! He’s out of hospital now and glad to be home but very weak , like I say the big Fear at the min is him catching something while still recovering from surgery so hopefully won’t be long before he gets the jab

I had mine last Sunday morning, Pfizer, first dose. Standard achy deltoid for a day or so afterwards, felt slightly whacked for a day but other than that, feel absolutely fine. If you get the offer, please jump at it!

Could put fines in place for no shows without a good reason and also go down to bottom of queue.

BB, do you think those who do not turn up would pay the fine!!. I absolutely share your sentiments. What about displaying a list of these people's names in their surgery for all to see ( yes....yes.. I know it would'nt happen, but it should, could...must.....???

Medics are running reserve lists in case people can’t make it / no shows. Uptake is very high. Also if you are keen. Volunteer to marshal and help at your local GP or vax centre and they will try and squeeze you in.

My local surgery were frantically phoning up people 30 mins before closing because they had over 100 vaccines left over due to knobs not turning up. Those people should go to the back of the queue in my opinion and then be made to pay for it. However the MIL got the phone call and rushed down there and got hers early because of it.

It hasn't and we won't see it till the second half of the year. Must have been in one of the Novavax trials.

It is getting better, as the last time I tried it, it said there were 16 - 19 million ahead of me!

Baguio, this is disgraceful behaviour, but sadly not unexpected in a Society that some sectors just see this most important life saving vaccination as "I don't want, or need it, in any case I didn't pay anything thing for it so why am I....bothered about turning up....excuse me Mr don't cough or take poorly in my presence!!!

Maybe post-Covid we could keep that going for people who have GP appointments that, without good reason, they fail to turn up for?

One of the problems with the NHS being “free at the point of use” is that clearly there are many people in the UK who value it in the same way. If they fail to turn up without good reason, or cancel too late meaning the appointment cannot be offered to someone else, why should they not be penalised accordingly?

Probably just means the booking staff work ‘office’ hours while the medical staff complete bookings, arranged in the week, over the weekend. Not unusual, and not really an issue to grumble about.

It annoys me that ‘we’ look for anything to criticise.

More than likely the case...And I wasn't grumbling or criticising just reporting the experience...I mentioned it in response to the earlier post regarding those that don't show.

I have just looked at the text it was actually timed at 4:55. She was given 35 minutes warning last thing on a Friday and sadly didn't pick up the text until after hours at 5:30. It states she must make an appointment, but the number given went straight to an after-hours message saying call us on Monday.

Will she now be counted as a "didn't show" that others are saying should now go to the back of the queue?
