Anyone have/used freyr & devil mods?

Hello folks, I am replacing an A-tec hertz mod which I have on my sako carbon lite. 243, which has a manked set of baffles, and visiting the Scottish game fair, whilst looking for a newer A-tec, I was shown a freyr and devil featherweight 196, £340, circa £100 more than the new A-tec hettz. Are these mods any good? I am back at the fair tomorrow, and wouldn't mind some feedback.

I have used a feather Weight 196 for 5 or 6 years. Excellent moderator. Maybe not as quiet as my previous ASE SL5 but still quiet enough and the difference in weight totally transformed the balance of my rifle.

That was a.30 cal mod on a .270. I would imagine the .243 will used the .25 mod, so closer to the bore size of the rifle and therefore better sound attenuation.

I got 3 of them, a Featherweight 269 on my .270 and 2 Sauer Titanium Pro (made by Freyr and Devik ) brilliant mods...

You will find some members quite forthright in their views about F&D mods and their support. I have a 6.5 FW149 and had a .30cal FW196; the FW149 sits on my lightweight .243 and is also used on the .270, the FW196 I used on a pair of .308s. Like some others I saw some corrosion on the strippable .30cal FW196 and then gas cutting despite my home loads achieving full burn in the 20" barrels. F&W were very helpful and the mod was replaced with a UT231 at a heavily discounted price. The FW have hard aluminium baffles inside but are strippeable for cleaning. The UTS has titanium baffles but is not strippable so I can only guess what is going on in there. I now boresnake it and spray in some Napier SILENSAVE.

I view moderators as consumables and their life will be determined by how you look after them, the cleaning regime, the number of rounds fired and the rate, and the nature of the loads - if you do not burn all of the powder in the barrel then expect increased wear in the mod. Moreover, the FW are IMHO better suited for pure stalking and if you do a lot of paper punching, then you need a different moderator.

Overall, I find them pleasing in shape, lightweight for good sound attenuation and I personally cannot fault the way F&D handled my issue with my FW196.

Tried an F&D mod on my 300 win mag but problematic. Wouldn't shoot a good group so went for a DPT. That works well.

I have one, bought an F&D F280 Titanium for my 30-06 but found the Dpt Magnum better for both weight and attenuation using PPU180gn.
I have been told using different ammo affects different outcome but am happy with PPU.

I have a Freyr&Devik uts on my 6.5, only been just over a year but so far so good. I never have, and won't clean mods, so getting an "un-cleanable" one, didn't mater to me.
Nice n light, and good sound reduction. I have also noticed that this mod never becomes slack on the threads, even after multiple shots. Something that my dpt does often.

Try searching. I really can’t be bothered with them any more. There’s enough been said already, suffice to say I’d never buy another though.

Bill from DPT is at the Scottish Gamefair. I’d seek him out if I were you.

I have an F&D on my Sauer 404 in 300 wm it’s badged Sauer but it’s made by F&D it’s very good, light good sound attenuation and well engineered ( But not cheap)

The Sauer has a titanium set of baffles - much better that the aluminium in the FW’s but that comes only in limited thread sizes and at a cost.

I brought a freyr & devil when I brought my Blaser and find it quite loud. It’s the type that screws on the end of the barrel type not the over barrel type as I was told they were quieter but slightly heavier so I went with weight loss over noise reduction.
This is what I was told anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️
