Anyone on here make thread protectors please?

No the most exciting thread ever granted (excuse the rubbish pun!)...

Rifle came without a thread protector and it certainly wasn't a deal breaker but wouldn't mind one for peace of mind when the mods not fitted. Would knock one up myself but no access to a lathe these days. JR Firearms make some lovely ones but my budget can't really stretch to one of those at the moment and they're probably overkill for my rifle anyway tbh.

So was wondering if anyone here makes their own? I believe, but will need to check, my thread is 1/2" UNF. Id ideally like a semi 'invisible' one blued or just black to match the contour of the standard tikka M595 barrel with a couple of mm over to fully protect the threads.

Or, if I can source one cheaply oversize (extrernal diameter) is there anyone I could send it to turn down to my barrel diameter for me?

Maybe you can help? Thank you.

Pardon my tight Yorkshire ways, if it's only to provide protection while not in use why not just get a nut of the correct thread size and utilise that ?
Regards
Jimmy

Ha ha Love it Jimmy! Just what my mum would have said (she's from West Yorks). Was hoping for something a little more refined...I am in the South now after all!:coat:

So I bought a £9 jobbie off Ebay in the end & its fine tbh. Decently made. Aluminium with some kind of black coating. Fits and will do the job...

The diameter is a little larger than Id hoped (no biggie for the £). 0.793". The narrowest part of my barrel where it meets the rifling is 0.634". Not wanting a true invisible cap but something a bit more discreet would be nicer to look at.

Bit out there and I hope not too presumptuous, but would any of you kind souls be willing to and/or have the facilities to turn it down to the barrel diameter? I'd do it myself but have no access to either a lathe or a 1/2" UNEF (28TPI) rod which I presume would be needed to hold in the lathe chuck. Reckon it would take 5 mins and happy to donate something to a charity of your choice in gratitude.

No bother if not. For the money I could find a way to check it in a drill and grind it down i suppose. Will probably just finish with plastikote or something similar.

Thanks for your help on this thread btw...not the most interesting granted but as usual Ive had some good advice and friendly responses.

Many thanks, Shep.

If you get it turned down what would you coat it with afterwards? I see you said Plastikote but Aluminium Black is available?

How much more would it have cost you to get Mike Norris to turn one out for you that was custom made rather than all this faffing about?
