Are we going back to the old Days

Looking through the for sale section, there appears to be a lot of scopes for sale of various makes, model, ect, and not as much NV or Thermal scopes.
Are we loosing interested in NV ect and going back to the good old days, probably wrong but you never know.

I would have thought that the fact that there are a lot of scopes for sale means that many people are turning to night vision and are trying to get rid of unused scopes.

As far as going back to "the good old days" (and they were), I still, on occasions, go out with a good torch on the rifle for a bit of lamping; it worked well in the past, and still does. I do cheat a bit and have my Habroks with me.
The combination of thermal and a good torch and rifle is lethal. There are a lot of reasons for this, but believe me, it works.

The amount of scopes in general that are for sale has increased and everyon trying to get that 1% improvement leads to churn.

I know of a retired keeper and his Lamping partner they are now I have to say early 70s of age and they are out four nights a week an old defender and night force lamp, and paid to do so, they say bumped up the pension😂😂

I did catch up with the old boy a few weeks ago and I said crafty old bugger creeping about he said well someone’s got to clear up the **** up to everyone’s making with thermal and night vision, and electric callers 🙈😂😂

He swears by a night force lamp, red filter and a bit of polystyrene on the window proper old school

Friends who are in the trade tell me that we have reached peak NV. Now it’s really only those wanting to upgrade and loose lots of money that are buying.

I think those who are predominantly stalkers, and not working as contractors under night licence conditions realise that the simplicity and optical quality of a decent rifle scope outweighs the faff and complexity of a digital optic.

Thermal / NV spotters may well be useful. I am considering a simple range finder for use on new open ground. For a little more cost and bulk I can get a NV monocular for not a lot more complete with rangefinder. It could a fun thing to have for wild life watching after dark, or use on the boat.

Cost effective too.

Probably wont be seeing half of whats out there.

We use hand held torches/lamps for Foxes, but we use thermal Binos for spotting great combinations.
Yes some leg it when we use the white/red light so what, there is nothing like looking through glass at your tgt.

Nothing wrong with quality thermal, seems a lot of people like to try to denigrate thermal shooting.
Granted, there will be less experienced people out there, just like there was on the lamp way back when.

Lamps are fine but lampshy foxes, all of your neighbours know that you are out, target/species id (all of the modes suffer with that), with a lamp you have sometimes a 'window' when to fire as they may spook.
NV is good but they can see some ir, probably the best for id - very inobtrusive for neighbours.
Thermal is the king for spotting. Foxes can't get thermal shy so lamping wouldn't be the alternative. Neighbours don't know you are out... ID, at times can be challenging but look and look again.
Get the best of both worlds, good glass and a thermal add-on.
If you have good glass, don't sell it as it's still good after periods of sat in the cupboard...........

After dark I go out foxing. The lamp that I search with, and the torch on the top of the gun that I shoot with, cost me less than £100 for both. I have had them for years and years, and they still both work as they should. They have an "on" and an "off" switch, and nothing else.
