Arran Week.

cancelled my arran week for this coming week, been told by too many people that it's a joke with hardly any deer to make it worth the money...sorted something else. good luck to anyone that's going....

Funny ive always shot deer i go every year have done since it started and ill continue to do so as long as the scheme keeps going ! Depends who you've being listening to you get a lot of people going who couldn't see a deer in front of them let alone shoot one !
Not worth the money you say i believe its £220 ish for the week people on here charge that per morning or evening stalk !

Well that is really great encouragement for those of us that are here already.

Thank you very much. We've been out in the torrential rain already and have been walking in the tracks of red all afternoon.

Shame we're not going to get to shoot anything.
Maybe the joke is cancelling at short notice when other people might like to have come

I shall be giving a FULL report on the week

Chris

Arran is commercial woodland stalking, the deer dont need to leave the shelter of the trees, but you will always see plenty marks and wallows of where they have been. Getting on to a deer requires real persistance a fair bit of experiance and luck comes into it as well, there are no garantees other than the deer are definately there and of a better quality than the hill beasts on the North of the island. If you want a deer garanteed try somewhere else if you want to stalk hard for a week in all weathers and maybe shoot a beast Arran is brilliant and I for one love it.

+1 357 mag.
I have never been to Arran and not shot deer I had three one week and for the money you cant beat it. To cancel because you have been told there is no deer is just madness its stalking not a park cull the scenery is stunning on its own sure you have to work for a deer but I would rather that than see one around every corner. I for one will continue to make best of this great scheme were else can I get a week on the hinds at £220 unguided and £380 for the stags no trophy fee's no bag limit. Well done BASC a great scheme.

P.S Good luck Chris J. Do you know what beat you are on? I look forward to you posts.

Thanks for that. We're not new at this and know the situation here. We just wanted a change of scenery and are used to putting the effort in. We'll give it 100% that is for sure.

if there are deer and we don't see them it won't be because we were bimbling about.

Chris J, best of luck this week and good stalking. I was there on first hind week and weather was perfect, made a change from the previous 2 times when I tested my gear in extreme weather. Always interested in conspiracy theories I am confused with the start of this thread. Sorry missed the thread previously when finnbear was calling!
I had one hind, my buddy had 2 and one other was shot therefore 4 were culled in total. Bob was around and collected 2 of the beasts as usual. Yes there has been a review and update to the procedures, only to be expected. I was fortunate to observe 2 stags (6&8 points) on more than one occasion. Never happens on a stag week. Most of the guns admitted to observing some deer, usual challenge of range/safe shot limited opportunities for more in the bag. I hope the next 2 hind weeks go well, Arran provides a great stalking experience for many new to the sport, there is no guide to hold your hand and put you on your quarry it is down to the individuals on their allocated (extensive) ground. Where else can you get this experience for £220 for the week with no trophy fees, long may Arran continue.
