Popped in a variation, and had a call this morning to say I qualify for a 'one for one' variation; so my cheque was not required.
It will be around an eight week turnaround, but none the less was pleased with the good news.
Always had positive dealings with A+S.
Thought it worth passing on my thanks, they are doubtless understaffed and overworked - hence the backlog.

Keeping everything crossed that my variation comes sooner, one more week of work then a week off. Would be mint if it came in time for that!

Some really positive news from A+S, and hopefully receiving my variation shortly.

"We have a new decision maker joining next week. Once trained we should see the times for variations drop to a couple of weeks (hopefully) – mind you, applicants can help themselves if they provide as much information as possible – saves a call back, which always takes longer than expected. We’ve trialled a process, which saw many variations being completed within a week, it’s just the lack of staff who can make those decisions that prevented it being the norm!

Renewals are 100% on time, so long as we have all the details, so when it comes your time to renew do it online and make sure the surgery send the form to us, or if the return it to you that you send it in ASAP. Early respondents get an automatic 8-week extension, late respondents run the risk of it becoming a grant, which costs more! At renewal, if you hear nothing from us then that’s a good sign. Don’t forget, variations are free when included in the renewal application."

Kind regards

Still waiting on a variation but hopefully won't be long. Years ago I was on the phone chasing it up every week. Now a bit wiser I know it doesn't get you it any quicker.

In all fairness a and s have never been great at turnaround times

I only emailed them yesterday as I am nine weeks in on my variation (approx) seems Derek has left the building, and Glenn is at the wheel now?. A couple of emails back and forth, pretty helpful chap.
Deffo not worth pestering though.

I saw Derek at shooting show in February was chatting
But maybe possible he has left. I thought one of the ladies was heading there team now. But I could be completely wrong on that only what I heard
Hope you get your variation soon

Interesting to hear that Derek has moved on, he definitely knew what he was talking about as a shooter and FLO. That said, Liz (who I dealt with a lot during my application) also seemed to have her head screwed on.

Last year In my area Mike Sage (excellent long standing FEO) retired and a charming (and very efficient) lady Hayley Jones had taken over - she even found a serial number on one of my moderators which neither the gunshop who sold it to me nor I had discovered
