AW Cost

i have a guy coming stalking with me this weekend for 2 AW outings , all he will pay for is the stalking.

i will charge him £100 for the 2 outings and £45 per beast he shoots (carcasses at market rate if he wishes to take it home). the paper work will cost the client no extra as i personally do not belive in charging if it .

if the client does not get a shot then all he will pay is £100 for his 2 outings simple as that !

but some one calls me with their own permission and wants witnessing , i will only ask for my fuel costs to be covered .

others may doe things different but this is the way i do it .

cheers lee

I have said before and I re iterate again.
Should anyone who has their own stalking patch and is still on the old blue portfolio I will only be to pleased to assist as a witness for any DSC2 candidate.

All I require is my out of pocket expenses.

I do have stalking leases were there are plenty of deer present but my stalking leases only allow named members on the lease to stalk, I would also be prepared to let someone accompany me on my leases but only to observe should a learner wish to gain knowledge on how to gralloch etc but they wont be able to use their own rifle as stated only as an observe basis, I do not wish to compromise the terms of my leases, For this NO charge whatsover.

Stu

The ones that **** me right off are the ones who have there own deer and want to come and shoot yours for free. Its simple if you want paper work done free get some good deer ground and use it, if not you need to pay. PS I was out with a chap off here and i am sure he was happy but his last stalk took us 200 mtrs over a marsh and this chap decided to belly crawl the full way christ i was wet through i was so cold i had no sex organs at all. He then turned round to me after the beast fell and said that was blood great ha ha .My reply was for who. He then said you could have waited at the wall . Sorry we need to follow every move so please lads next time take the dry route and have a thought for the older generation ha ha .;)

I wasnt aware you could shrink a fanny David:lol:

Well everybody I think this has been stalked, killed and gralloched again now.
You have your choices, and there are plenty of options free or otherwise.
You will find that often those with overheads, rent, accountants, insurance, ect ect will charge varing degrees some don't.
Make your choice and go for it.
Before I was full time I did it for free, now its work.
You wouldn't go to work for nothing neither will I.
So shop around and good luck theres something for everyone, just don't cough and splutter about it. The 30 odd dsc2 stalks I've done this winter were all paid for and they were happy and they could have gone else where. They didn't and that was their choice, you also have that choice.
regards John

well said ! :thumb:

Ask my accountant my receipt book has many £40 for dsc2 witnessing in it. So in my case you are wrong.
Also I only charge when a deer is grassed and do the whole thing in one outing.
No shot no paperwork.

John Have i insinuated or pointed this line of questioning toward your name or direction answer NO. I haven't I have no interest in any one or any individuals I AW for those that ask i do it for Free as Ive said it cost me nothing for the Aw ticket so why should i charge .

Ive been a AW for a long time, it bores me to listen to sad stories of people being ripped off. Oh and yes it didn't cost me anything for mine .

If I were to charge, I would have everything in place to make sure there would be no come back, if something was to go wrong, Ive seen it with pheasant syndicates and corporate shoots that thought nothing would every happen ,until it did

I generally do a couple a month, although I did all 3 for someone last weekend! I've never charged and don't intend to either. However, I wouldn't expect to be out of pocket and would like my basic costs covered, especially with the price of fuel these days!
I don't mind doing the stalks, but the paperwork is a bit of a chore!
MS:)

I knew you were generalising and meant nothing back personally only stating that some of us are doing this business cosha and I get tired of hearing people say pay by cheque ask for a reciept it ****es guides off. All I was saying not this one.

I did think about charging for Aw outings a few years ago, but decided not to, just with the politics involved

I am willing to do it for free, maybe cover fuel cost and feed me :D

I have never had anyone approach me through the list, I haven't much suitable ground to offer but If you need an outing, give me a call, as it is I need a good excuse to get out.

I have always disagreed with the system , there should be a tarriff set by dsc or the billing and payment goes through a 3rd party [basc, bds, ds???] there are far too many wide boys out there.

I think with AW stalking there are the same problems as there is with everything else in life, somebody will always want to rip you off. A lot of AW now days incorporate the witnessing in to their day to day business which means that you can get your stalk witnessed and your portfolio written up all for a set fee. Alternatively there are AW's who will do it for their out of pocket expenses only. Which ever way you choose to do it will have a lot to do with your circumstances, some stalkers have no option but to go the paying route in which case the trick is to find a fair and decent witness and hope that the price you have to pay will be a fair one. If you are lucky enough to be able to get your witnessing done for out of pocket expenses, or even a Muntjac, then the costs will obviously be substantially less.

Personally I think that if someone is good enough to witness your stalk and write up your portfolio then a little extra above the out of pocket expenses does not go amiss, some sort of small gift something in a bottle for example would be much appreciated. You have to remember that somebody is giving up a day of their time and putting considerable effort into your stalk and writing up your portfolio. They does tend to be, in my opinion, amongst people looking for a witnessed stalk rather a lot expected in return for not a lot.

John

Thats what me and my mate did. When the assessor who witnessed our portfolios on an out of pocket expenses basis only, Both myself and Stalking Partner got him a Hand made Sika Sack specially made with his initials tooled in the leather work as gratitude for all that he had done for us.

That's a very kind gesture STU, which I think your AW will apperciate, good on you both.

Having watched this thread with interest I feel the AW's are entitled to compensation, and to whatever level they feel appropriate, it's up to the paying stalkers to decide what they are comfortable with.
Time is money, expenses, game and shooting land costs must be considered, plus experience has a price which cannot be placed.
I've got my DSC1 and hope to complete my DSC2 this year, I for one will be looking to enlist the services of a variety - 1 AW has agreed to a witness on my lease for no more than taking the meat, as for the other stalks I'm looking to return to my DSC1 venue and plan to head south also.

Guys, I have been looking at threads regarding how much an AW should charge for a days work. The current thinking seems to be most AW are making money from outings.

The scenario is AW gives up a Day to go out and Witness someone else Stalking, Travels a round trip of 70miles and takes a total of 7hrs to complete Drive and Stalk.

Question how much should he expect to charge for giving up his time and cover travel costs.

Dalkur:-|

I think the old saying.............you get nothing for nothing rings true here Dalkur.
I dont think its fair to ask someone to work for nothing..........to reach the point of being an AW the AW has obviously spent a lot time money and effort.

As we all know stalking deer is a costly business for the vast majority of us and I think the AW wouldn't be out of order asking for a few quid to help pay his rent and for his efforts.

Saying that mind you, i'm well aware from personal experiance that there a number of individuals close to us who are ripping the jolly brown arse out of it.

haha dave you dont need a gold medal buck hanging on the wall to remember a great stalk just a pair of damp gonards
:D

BOOM BOOM I am glad you will remaber that stalk as for me that is the type i like and i am sure any one who wants a deer signed off needs to think what they really want. Most lads charge a stalking fee on there own ground what ever that might be. I have not had any one complain when they come out stalking with me for a deer even if it is unsuccessful so why moan about the AW bit its just an add on. normally with out a fee.
