Longshoreman smocks going for over 1K on E-Bay![]()
The condom's were from my coat TimBarbour once had a very good full spread advertisement in a popular upmarket country lifestyle magazine that consisted of a photo of a large and very varied assortment of items that they'd found in the pockets of coats returned to them for repair and/or reproofing. It provided a very interesting snapshot of the types of people that wear their garments.
There was a considerable quantity of live ammunition among the collection!
Apparent everything got carefully replaced in the correct coats before they were returned to their owners.
I thought the packets looked rather worn. Clearly hadn't needed to restock for a very long time. The condom's were from my coat Tim![]()

When did they move production to China I thought their main production was South Shields but also some Portugal, I have friends who used to work in the Factory in South Shields until recently and they were still making them thereThey used to make them in our village in the borders. My mum worked there until they shut it all down and moved to China. I wouldn’t buy a thing from them nowadays.
Apparently, most of it is actually made in Eastern Europe and not China. They only make certain lines in South Shields now. I suppose it would be everything that was made in the borders factories that went to Eastern Europe? When did they move production to China I thought their main production was South Shields but also some Portugal, I have friends who used to work in the Factory in South Shields until recently and they were still making them there

I remember that, also in late 1980's to early 1990,s Midland Game fair at Weston park , Barbour had their own stand, a marquee with 20 + women with sewing machines doing while u wait repairs and re - waxing, they did that for several years.Barbour once had a very good full spread advertisement in a popular upmarket country lifestyle magazine that consisted of a photo of a large and very varied assortment of items that they'd found in the pockets of coats returned to them for repair and/or reproofing. Now that is strange… after some years of hard wearing I noticed the sleeves had shortened, just a little but I sent it to Barbour who made an excellent job of lengthening them… the coat is no longer needed so if anyone is interested dm me.Got an old Barbour the longshore man made it on to the clothes show back in the 80s
Put it in to have the sleeves lengthend was advised not to have owt dun to it due to its age was one of the very early Barbour jackets god knows how old it is![]()
