Basc voluntary lead ban

I am looking forward to the Ray-gun becoming a reality. That way, no lead, bismuth, steel or God forbid, carbon emissions (Blackpowder must surely be next on the list of things to be banned ?) :coat:

ly the way of the NON shooting world,

by 2025 if i am still living i dont think i’ll be shooting at all.

On the whole some agree and some disagree at the end of the day all it is is our opinions. No point in winging about it for 180 posts.

Either look at with with a glass half full or a glass half empty both sides of the argument have been aired. What ever your position is as usual we don’t have a say on it like most things in life so overcome it. Next time the opportunity arises ensure you remind the uneducated or antis that we are cleaning up our act or report on SD for eternity winging about things that are quite frankly and unfortunately out of our control.

Unless anyone here is prepared to spend a lot of their free time lobbying and attending any of the big groups member meetings we have to put up and shut up to a certain degree. If you don’t pay the subs why do you need to comment. I would even go as far to say that your opinion isn’t valid it’s like winging about the government but not getting off your arse to vote. You don’t pay the subs to whoever it may be BASC GWCT NGO etc they don’t represent you. I know Kes tried but couldn’t stomach it in the end and I can’t blame him for that. I would love to have my opinion and dismay aired at these meetings as I am very passionate about my field sports and fishing but due to my young family and work commitments it isn’t an option.

Further to the above I know members from all organisations feel let down and I am one of them but unless we get some one in there to represent what we deem as the ‘real’ shooting community you may as well be wizzing in the wind

Cleaning up out act?
It’s not dirty in the first place. When they ban lead shot they will move on to lead bullets. It is basically stated in the current BASC FAQs on the matter saying lead bullets would still be acceptable in controlled area of the range so no use on quarry going forward! No subsonic .22 ammo any more, crap lead free rifle pellets and poor BC poorly fragmenting Varmint bullets..... yay for the win of being able to say but ‘we’re cleaning up our act’

PS the antis won’t give a sh*t about how clean we are killing things just that fact that we are. Step into the real world!

I’m very much in the real world mate... it sounds like you are the one in the dark ages change with the times it was inevitable. Shite I agree but inevitable

I’m not your mate.

So you’re happy that .22lr subsonics will disappear for no good reason (the science doesn’t support it being an issue), probably the most used pest control tool out there for good reason as they are silent.

Or happy with low BC Varmint bullets that start with less energy, carry energy less effectively, drift more and impart their energy less effectively? Essentially making shooting less humane.

Purely to try and placate people who want driven game shooting and trophy hunting banned, and for whom lead contamination in game meat is a non issue because they don’t want game meat to exist at all.

It is not banned in the majority of the US or the EU so it is not an inevitable or necessary change. Its a farce

Correct you are not my mate a mere Essex term... your answer was predictable though.

No I’m obviously not happy with it at all, did I say that? I didn’t think so -although we have no choice, what I’m saying is either adapt or winge taking the winging option isn't going to solve the matter-unless your prepared to put your money where your mouth is and get on a council in one of the orgs and vent your disgust there. The hard fact is we have no choice not one but most of all the big organisations have decided to not seek our permission, made our decision for us and yes probably totally plucked it up but as I said thats life. We just need to adapt, there’s plenty of other things in life to rant about or be concerned about such as our health or families. Winging about BASC GWCT etc etc becomes quite tiresome.

I’m not winging about them, I will be writing to them explaining why I am cancelling and why I will be encouraging new shooters in our club and that I introduce to quarry shooting to not join any of the org’s throwing us under the bus.

I will be joining the CPSA who provide equal insurance and not supporting this nonsense.

I will also now be whole heartedly supporting @kes et al morally and financially as far as I can on their venture into a JR. because the org’s clearly are not there to look after our interests, only their own.

So I am not simply whinging (I guess the h is dropped in Essex) I am voting with my wallet which is better than jay saying ‘well what can I do’.

At least once shooting sports have suffered a death by a thousand cuts you’ll only have your family to worry about

Good on you, when you get a response please share, you may be one of the few who will write to them but I’m sure many more will not be.

Reading your posts in other threads it did seem as so we shared the same sentiments, but as in true SD style one post changes things , thanks for spell checking my previous post i suspect it brought you great satisfaction finding that error -how sad.

What a pointless argument between members.

Shooting won’t cease there is to much industry involved with it in this country , much like smoking tobacco and fast food.

I’ll be looking after my family with or without shooting.

Don’t despair for me if shooting did ‘die by a thousand cuts’ id just continue ferreting and fishing :tiphat:

Potentially the biggest change in shooting since the invention of the modern shotgun 100 ish years ago and paradoxically heralding the demise of the older SBS's created after that date.
After years of incredible British ingenuity in shooting - a moment of incredible stupidity, couched under the mantle of 'populism' which we are not supposed to challenge ?

This has nothing to do with the danger of lead consumption and food safety but it is yet another example of a death by a thousand cuts. The amount of pheasants sold to Waitrose must be minuscule, and I hate the term big bags I think 500 bird days are probably the top end and the vast majority of let days 200 -350 the norm.
If every gun took home 10 brace each it would solve this problem overnight, I take a lot of let days each year and it really boils my p155 that some guns can’t even be arsed to take even the prepared brace home. Often after a few days back to back I’ll happily take 20 brace of partridge home for my family’s consumption.

No satisfaction to be honest, I had to check the way I was spelling was correct.

It is just hugely frustrating as this will effect many shooters in many ways. In all honesty I have no issues with the lead shot ban, it won’t massively effect me as I have steel proofed guns and don’t stretch ranges but I understand it will impact others massively.

Rifle bullets on the other hand, or projectiles as I include air rifle pellets, will have a big impact on me and the shooting I do. So I will support the game shooters as I responded on trophy hunting and the proposed 50 cal and lever release ban, to support other shooters.

Shooting is not that big an industry in the UK not enough for R&D by a lot of companies into suitable lead free alternatives.

And don’t be fooled, when shooting is banned fishing will be next and ferreting will follow, which will be a shame as I’ve just got ferrets again for the first time in a few years.

The other thing that really annoys me is the number of shoots that serve non game for lunch such as beef, chicken, pork etc

You have to provide the client with what they want, we offer all the normals stuff mentioned with partridge pheasant and venison along side them, they choose what they want and the chef provides it.

Bob.

What a self defeating attitude, surely the drive to eat British game begins at the shoot table.
