BASC welcomes government announcement on sound moderators

Following years of lobbying, BASC has welcomed the Government’s decision to remove the licensing requirement for sound moderators.

Thanks for those SD members that took the time to last year's consultation - you were amongst 12,471 cert holders to do so.

More details here:

'The Government’s view is that the change should be made through primary legislation, as soon as Parliamentary time allows.'
So not yet passed but is expected to when Parliament has time to discuss it !!
Potentially could be stuck as a clause in the Police and Crime Bill that is currently going through Parliament. This catch all process is often used to stick in some related and often some totally unrelated primary legislation amendments.

The Bill is currently at report stage so may be too late but let's wait and see.

Very welcome when it comes, but it’s sad that human nature makes us immediately look for loopholes to exploit, in our favour. I will finally replace a tatty old mod that has done thousands of rounds , for a slimmer, lighter, more tuned version. I did that with the wife on a 1f1, so moderator next….

It will certainly be a modest convenience, if it eventually happens - at which point it might reasonable be 'welcomed'.

...and that pigs may fly, as soon as they have wings.

Even if it were to happen, it would not in my view compensate for the debacle which resulted in certificate-applicants having to pay GPs to get forms filled in the the FLDs.

Did you respond to last year's sound moderator consultation?
