If anyone is new to deer stalking , limited experience or having trouble finding permissions the bds mentoring days are great for experience ! , this is the second one I’ve been on and learn more and more , a day with mark thackstone who was professional , knowledgeable and made the day enjoyable,
Came away with two muncjac and a Chinese ,could have shot more but with limited freezer space I didn’t want to be greedy or just shoot for the sake of it so finished a little bit earlier than needed too , there’s no clock watching or rushing or have to be done by a certain time , walked through the gralloch then over seen on last two , had a slight concern zero had shifted having messed up a shot on first muntjac we saw but it was no trouble for mark to set up a make shift range put a target up and get it checked , slight adjustment and we were off again
As a learning experience and value for money this would be hard to beat and Id recommend a day to anyone

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Mark as a fellow assessor and sharing both the delivery and learning side of courses with him. He brings a huge amount of knowledge and experience to the industry — but more importantly, he’s just a genuinely top bloke.

Great to see the BDS mentoring scheme having such a positive impact. If you’re looking to get into deer stalking, it’s one of the best places to start in my opinion.
