BDS moved over to Dominic Griffiths from CIC for measuring ?

Any truth in the rumour that the British Deer Society are changing allegiance from CIC to Dominic Griffith ?
I hope not. CIC are the internationally recognised body for trophy measuring. I have seen polls that show 90% of British hunters would use CIC over BASC/ Sporting Rifle.

Yes this is true, I spoke to Dominic Griffiths last week when I took four very nice roe heads for him to measure,
the BDS are joining forces with BASC's measuring team to be one.
yes they won't be internationally recognised but does that matter, for me and many others "no"

Dominic Griffiths has been measuring heads for me for many years well before he swapped to start BASC's System and his measuring has always been to the same high standard, good luck to him and his team

I guess people will vote with there feet.

140000+ members between the two organisations won't worry about other things outside the UK there standards are just as good and probably better as they have mored forward into the 21st century with there measuring...

I had issue with cic at scone few years ago the way we were treated was out of order, I complained but I heard a lot of others voicing same.
I spoke to someone told them what I felt & had a good conversation with the gent .

I can understand if you were treated as I felt , you would go elsewhere .
I have used Cic since via bushwear in Perth & received an exemplary service

I like to note my experience was nothing to do with Politics between either camps , I know bugger all bout that tbh.

I will always use the standard that is measured and accepted world wide were possible. DG measured a few of my Roe and I am sure he did a good job.But he left and went to a one man Band so I get TDW team to do mine.
CF moving forward in my opinion is not the correct way keeping to a strict robust standard is the only way to measure .
My opinion is CIC should have ask DG back on to the team.

For those who don't already know the UK Trophy Evaluation Board (CICUK) can be found on the Blaser stand at the CLA and Midland game fairs. This is an arrangement that was in the planning since the Midland game fair 2014. It see's the UKTEB and the UK Delegation of the CIC aligned with Blaser rifles who are a main sponsor of the worldwide CIC organisation. For those who may be unaware, the main organisation promotes conservation through sustainable hunting and has its own website with news and information.

We are hosted in Scotland on the Forestry Commission stand at Scone and the SNH stand at Moy Highland fair.

We have just finished a very successful Scone game fair and we are now looking forward to the CLA, confident that current and any new clients will be able to find us a lot easier in our new location. Of course, it goes without saying that there will be some amazing rifles on show from Blaser and Rigby rifles that you can see.

We are also supported by Ridgeline of NewZealand, and as such have a draw at every game fair we attend to give away a stalking smock. Anyone who brings a trophy for measurement with the CIC is automatically entered.

We hope to see you at the CLA, other shows we attend and at our homes to have your trophies evaluated.

Internationally recognised-only way,with more than roe trophies.
With BASC,there is zero drying period I believe,fine if you want a better medal than it actually is-fine again if charging a client for a head that's not as good as a medal but actually sneaks in because it's still soaking wet.

CIC only way,anything else is just cash......

I find this rather sad. CIC is the recognised industry standard and has been established many years across Europe. There are many measuring systems across the globe, Rowland Ward, Boone and Crocket and SCI to name a few, but to find that BDS has moved away from CIC towards a system that is not that well established is to me a sorry state of affairs.

Having many European clients they will always want any trophy animal measured by CIC standard, and if American they always refer to SCI.

Maybe a more modern outlook and approach with an advertising campaign by CIC will help the organisation move forward. Either way I will always use CIC and would be reluctant to use any other system that is not recognised across Europe.

no nothing stopping people from using CIC and many of us will continue to do so, but I think some are tempted by no longer having to wait 90 days to have a head measured, and some by the platinum medal which they seem to think is a higher standard , which it isn't.

As sikamalc said there are several different measuring systems throughout the world, many of which are recognized by CIC as they either use the same formula or a formula that arrives at the same result.

Don't think that will ever happen with BASC as while their basic measuring will arrive very close to CIC score for roe(within a point or two) their introduction of a platinum medal for what would be high end golds under the CIC system makes the two systems incompatible IMO.

This is a big draw, with many European stalkers able to have their heads measured and then take them home straight away, rather than leaving them behind and relying on their being sent on 3+ months later. Lots of stalkers would leave without having heads measured too, sometimes (but not always) having them measured later at home, but if not they were lost to the UK records. Also helps with trophy fee payments before clients leave too...

I used to think it was a shame that an alternative system had been created too, given the long established reputation and history, etc., of CIC. But how many people actually have access to a CIC record book? Come to think of it, how many people have access to the back issues of the annual UK CIC trophy review published in Shooting Times? Its not even on their website (cictrophy.com). Apart from a score and a medal, there is practically no connection with that history...

Not saying one is better than the other, but I can see the appeal. Interesting to hear other people's views and opinions though, so please keep them coming!
