Bergara B14 Crest v Sako S20 Precision

For me it would always be Sako over Bergara. I'd go with a used older model of Sako over an S20 though as the odd issue reported on them and nowt on the 85 and older

Or...given the ease of getting aftermarket stocks etc just go for Tikka

Any particular reason?

A long list of recurring faults and issues that don’t seem to be resolved

Quite heavily documented on various forums both here and abroad

Bolt shrouds coming loose

Bottom metal cracking

Firing pin issues

Rust

General poor qc

Having spoken recently to someone who deals with warranties on this brand it appears the issues remain

I’d add that I wouldn’t necessarily look at an S20 either as I’ve seen some that misfeed from the mag

Weight also a factor with the Sako

Are these all fairly common issues as far as you’re aware then? That’s a shame if so. Thank you for the info none the less up until now I can’t say I’ve heard much negativity surrounding the B14 range.

Afternoon everybody,

I’m just venturing into to the big league calibres after getting comfortable with my little .17, after doing a few laps of the country side with my .17 lithgow I’ve realised that the last thing I want my stalking rifle to be is heavy. I’ve recently put in for a .243 so I can start controlling some of the deer around the estate and have just started looking into rifles, one that’s really caught my eye is the Bergara B14 Crest, it’s seems reasonably priced and is definitely eye catching. My other option I’ve only just done some research into is the Sako S20 Precision which again is a very nice looking gun and a sako so built top quality. I was just wondering if anybody can shed some light on either of these guns through either experience with them or just some general thoughts about them? Of course I’m open to any other suggestions for my first .243 also!

Many thanks,
Archie
Any votes for the Remington 700 aswell?

Earlier 700 should be ok

Later , be careful

Secondary cam engagement is the prime concern

I have an S20 in 6.5 CM topped with a Leupold VX5-HD and Stalon X108, no issues with the rifle at all, not super fussy with ammo, 1/3 MOA with S&B Blue 120g very accurate if you do you’re part, It isn’t the lightest set up and their are heavier rifles but it doesn’t bother me and if I need to I just take 5 and watch the world go by.
The only thing is your locked in to the S20 stocks whether it be the Hunter or the Precision, no aftermarket light as a feather carbon options .

Honestly just go with a Tikka T3 for these reasons:

I’ve never known one not shoot out of the box
There are lots of aftermarket mods available if that’s your thing.
They’ll shoot anything ammo wise
If you outgrow it or want to upgrade you won’t take a massive hit on it.
You say you don’t like heavy rifles. Neither do I (too much humping the GPMG around as a youngster) so don’t buy one.
‘Everybody has one’ - yeah there’s a reason for that….

Had mine since 2013 when I bought it as a beginners rifle…..still haven’t found anything and believe me I’ve tried that either shoots better or is more reliable. Notice I don’t say looks or feels more ‘premium’ but you won’t regret it.
