Sooo do tell me why the 6.5x55SE doesn’t reign supreme, go on I dare you?

vintage creedmoor no longer reigns supreme because the modern creedmoor is better and in a short action.....

Yes, I specified stalking for the .270 with informal target shooting as a secondary reason.Did you need justification for two centerfires?
I have a fairly generous ammo allowance on all my certs, I asked for it because of the target shooting and the savings to be made by buying a slab of 200 instead of smaller quantities.I've a .308 but wanting another chambering probably either 6.5 PRC or .270. My super seems to be a bit of a nit picker. Has cut my ammo allowance from 500 to 150 on my last renewal.

I reversed the rational for the 6.5 and also got a moderator for use in high amenity areas.

Why is the short action such a big advantage?vintage creedmoor no longer reigns supreme because the modern creedmoor is better and in a short action.....
I have stalking target on the .270 and target/stalking and use in high amenity areas on the 6.5So you have stalking on the 6.5 and stalking/target on the .270? I'm planning on putting justification for the new rifle as hill stalking and .308 for forestry work.
Ask NARGC to make a call on your behalf. It can’t do any harm. Follow up your request, but once the cert is issued the Gards are very reluctant to change it because they have to go back to HQ and have a new one printed. You may have to wait for the next renewal.Yeah I'm not sure what happened with my local Garda station. I know the Super and know ex colleagues of his and let’s just say, his references aren't exactly glowing. I put in a formal request to up it to 500 as per the guideline allowance for stalkers. Been 4 weeks now, with 2 follow ups but have heard nothing. Nearly all of my shooting is S42 work so need ammo on hand.
look at it the other way , think of the performance you want then decide if you want an excessively large action to achieve it or a more compact lighter more rigid action to achieve the same performance? Why is the short action such a big advantage?
A standard length action will take short cartridges, a short action cannot handle a standard cartridge, your cartridge options are limited.
I’ve heard all the theoretical reasons why short is better, but frankly they seem less than convincing.
More accurate, how much more and does it actually matter to anyone other than a skilled target shooter?
Faster to operate, how much faster and what’s the real world advantage?
Lighter, probably true but you’re talking ounces, again no real world impact.
I have stalking target on the .270 and target/stalking and use in high amenity areas on the 6.5

It has advantages for a small number of users, but its not better…..look at it the other way , think of the performance you want then decide if you want an excessively large action to achieve it or a more compact lighter more rigid action to achieve the same performance?
and all the things you list are true so it literally is better , by small margins yes but still better............
Looking at your post again, if I was in your position I would definitely apply for another rifle. You shoot most of your deer on a section 42, which qualifies as essential management, you therefore need a spare firearm. So you have stalking on the 6.5 and stalking/target on the .270? My situation is similar to yours, live in Dublin, stalk in Wicklow.
^ This, absolutely. Is that an AI generated response? - if so it might be better to not rely too much on AI info, when reloading.... :-!
I don't. But many think that there is a big difference between the two chamberings....Is that an AI generated response? - if so it might be better to not rely too much on AI info, when reloading.... :-!
but you listed the ways it's better already and now you're saying it's not , you'll need to make your mind up !It has advantages for a small number of users, but its not better…..
Just like the .308 is not better than the 30/06 and the 6.5 Creedmoor is not “better” than the Swede. The Swede is a better choice for a truly versatile rifle, the newbie is optimised for paper punching.
Doesn't the Creedmore have tighter chamber tolerances and so is potentially more accurate?
How do you define best?
Velocity
Bullet weight
Energy
Accuracy
Efficiency
Oh it's the cartridge I use
I have used #### since 1978 in 3 rifles, yet haven't refused to shoot a rifle in that calibre and one a student the other with the scope set so far back it hit me forehead.
You are spot on but us silly old farts like to argue over this topic time and time again as its amusing and nothing else.I'm new to stalking but not to shooting. Consistency is surely all that matters once to have enough power to actually make a clean kill???
Buy a .270 and live in the woods, in a cave and make clothes from deer hidesI’d like to mess around with some of the older calibres.
Maybe in an over & under, fixed magnification scope, no range finder, deer antler shooting stick, lots of tweed etc.
