Best Brass ?

There was a thread the other day where the quality of Hornady brass was called into question where reloading was concerned. If this is the case, what would you say was the best quality brass, either to re-use or to buy as new ready for home-loading ?

Lapua and norma are the best quality imo. Heard good things about Peterson but not used it personally. Federal, Remington and hornady are not great in my experience. Flash holes are punched and have a big burr to remove. Necks generally tend to split sooner. Lapua brass in my .260 has been remarkable.

Lapua, Norma and Starline are what I use, Hornady stuff does seem a bit thin and Remington come to think of it.

An interesting thread and I'm keen to see the general view. I use lapua but have once fired norma brass which I may load up with the load I use in lapua and see if results are as good...when we can get out again

I've used Remington in. 243 it's been reloaded at least 6 times. No problem.
Hornady and PPU in 30-06. Been reloaded a good few times. No problem.
Got some Lapua in 30-06 to try.
Using PPU in 9.3x62

Have used brass by Winchester, Remington , Federal, Norma, RWS, Imperial, Sako and lapua. At the moment am using PPU Brass in .270 AND .308. I think as long as you segregate your brass for reloading, then its all good. Some years ago I had a lot of problems with .308 Lapua factory ammunition (not brass). On firing many cases showed small longitudinal splits with soot on the body just above the web. I know its heresy to say it, but I won't waste my money on Lapua!

Lapua, Norma, Sako and Nosler have all been good for me. Federal and Hornady not so good in my experience

For deer stalking, stuff that you are willing to lose.

I was looking at some Norma .270W brass and at over £1 per case in a 100 count bag it was out of my price range.

Thankfully, a very generous member on here helped me out with some once fired Norma (along with the much coveted black plastic clips!).

Performance wise it is exactly the same as some older Winchester (WW SUPER headstamp) that I have been using, but it is a bit easier to resize and trims up nicely, primer pockets and flash holes are also more consistent.

If you get 5 or more firings out of a case that has been loaded to full performance, the case has done very well. I tried this with a single piece of aforementioned Winchester brass and on the 6th loading I felt the primer pocket getting a bit too loose so I binned it.

As usual I'm sure the deer don't mind. Unless you are looking at doing benchrest/FTR/PRS stuff with small rifle primers then that is a different rabbit hole to go down.
