Best Game Shoot Liability Insurance:

Morning everyone,

I am looking to gain some input from those who run small game shoot.

I am the president of a small game shoot that operates on MOD land. For as long as anyone can recall we have had public liability insurance in addition to individual BASC/CPSA insurance with Towergate.

Having reviewed the policy I think we could do better. What are people using and how much does it cost? We are a 20 gun syndicate with very little in terms of assets just an old Soviet era tractor and topper.

What are people using?

Why individual BASC insurance, surely BASC syndicate insurance would be cheaper and offer the same benefits?

Worth a quick word with your MOD contact ? He might take the responsibility away by simply stating satisfactory insurance from an MOD perspective and then you can get a cheaper quote ?
I know SACS do one, on a member basis as do BASC although I can only recommend SACS.

The other advantage with a syndicate policy is that it gives liability cover for the shoot officers who could be held responsible

If you want to go REALLY cheap, Country Covers Club does syndicate insurance too. Looks fairly comprehensive.

The advantage of individual cover is that the organisers of the shoot have that responsibility taken away from them. Although it's good to request proof from those involved, perhaps on the first shoot date. The advantage of syndicate insurance is that it is advantageous for the guns in that it's cheaper (include it in the price of the yearly subs), they don't have to faff about doing it themselves and for the organisers, you know that's insurance covered and you know you've got the insurance cover you actually want. The disadvantage of individuals covering themselves is that you might need liability insurance on top of that. But that may well be covered by the MOD (or other landowner if elsewhere).

The other advantage of a syndicate insurance most will automatically cover any guests shooting.

By rights every shoot captain should be asking for guests ins before allowing them to shoot, and no proof no shoot.

Hmmm...food for thought indeed. Seems syndicated BASC membership is likely the way forward. We seem to have been locked into our existing policy for 20+ years without it being questioned. I’ve asked the MOD if we must use TGW or whether I can explore the market for something better....I await a response. Thanks for your input/s. Very useful.
