Best long range torch

Hi All
I am new to SD looking for a long range torch, I have a Nightmaster trident which is great but looking for something that goes further out. I have looked at the sniperhog and wicked, what’s people’s thoughts?

I always found coyote light to be the best, with wicked light not far behind. I've never used or seen a sniper hog so I can't comment but, if I was to go back to lamping, my first choice would be coyote light, despite the hefty price tag!

Do you want white light or colored, and how long is your current torch throwing? Are you concerned about size or weight?

Interesting. They do look unnecessarily bulky but if you need a beam to reach out beyond 200 yards I guess that’s the price to be paid.

Kind regards

Richard

Lumintop GT Mini Pro is a fantastic pocket thrower if you want something easy to carry. I have a few, and nearly always one with me. Easily does 500m which is amazing for something so small.1695202833795.webp

When quoting beams, it's useful to say whether you mean actual usable distance (and then if naked eye or scope), or ANSI FL beams that IIRC mean 0.25lux illumination at the target. That is comparable to full moon, so for most people it's a stretch to call that effective beam distance.

Since we seem to have diverged to white light, I might add LEP (Laser Excited Phosphor) torches. I only have experience with one, Olight Odin Turbo, but I can attest that at 300-something lumens it kind of matches the much larger Olight M3X at 1000-something lumens. Both are rated for about 1000 meter beam and are somewhat usable with naked eye for "as far as you can see" (maybe 500 meters or so?) The form factor is very nice, and the beam is exceedingly narrow. I haven't actually tried but judging on the manufacturer runtimes the efficiency of LEP is much worse than LED (i.e. despite much lower lumen ratings, the runtime isn't longer)

There was a time when Nightmaster ruled the roost and I could see foxes at distances way further than I would ever lift the rifle to. Now there's a proliferation of fabulous light torches but strangely the Nightmaster still throws a beam further than I can reasonably be sure of a shot.
Maybe that’s why I have two of them and three different pils which I still use….

And for bunnies overkill!

I have a Nightmaster trident, I would like a white light throwing good range. Have looked at the acebeam W30 looks impressive

yeah this is the thing its mentioning beam distance but useable is very different. I’d like a little more than moon light. Lol I looked at the acebeam w30 but its an LEP do you mean that the battery’s don’t last long with efficiency or that the bulb doesn’t as its lep? Also why is it so hard to find LEP lights here?

Acebeam W30 seems to come in 3 different versions (6500K, 4000K, CRI>=90) and Acebeam only quotes beam for 6500K that has longest throw. It seems that while 6500K has 2500m throw, the high CRI version reaches 2000m. Both should be substantial improvement over Trident, if the 1000m beam they quote is to the same spec as Acebeam.

I would strongly consider the high CRI (Color Rendering Index) version. The beam is very tight and at distance you want all the help you can get to understand what you're looking at. Of course more light means you see better so it's a trade-off. Depending on whether you consider squared or cubed, a torch that has 2500m throw will have 50-100% more light at given distance than torch with 2000m throw.
