Do It All Scope

With stalking opportunities a little limited due to various reasons I am contemplating making some changes to my T3x to make it more capable for target work but still viable for the 2-3 times a year I'll likely go stalking.

Currently running a Fixed x8 per Swaro which is lovely but the target do is not fine enough for close in targets and and the magnification won't be enough for long range.

looking for first hand experience recommendations for something that goes up to around x24/x25 magnification, is ideally£1500 or less and is still capable for stalking. I am aware its going to be a compromise both fronts but that's ok with me, I'm not trying to shoot targets competitively with the rig and I'm also not expecting to be doing challenging hill stalks (Cambs is flatter than a flat thing!).

any recommendations for further research appreciated.

If you are after SFP the zeiss v4/6 line will give you open turrets and a workable reticle. Vortex lines PST or the new HD scopes will work.

You may pick up a used Swarovski X6 in your price bracket. New you are not far away from the ne 4-24 Z6i which may work for both using the new turret instead of the standard BT.

For mainly target work and holdovers then FFP may be a better option.
Element/delta/schmidt and bender/ Zeiss/ Leica will all do the job.

More specifics on the type of target shooting would guide better, known distance paper punching or steel plates. Lots of variables to think through. Your budget is healthy to fill your needs

likely paper punching and likely known distance, its still only an 18mm contour barrel so I'm not going to be able to shoo the sort of shot strings required for PRS etc, its just a way of me being able to make more use of the gun and give me an option of shooting out a little further than I'd be able to with my .308 target gun.

I am having a clearout of stuff at the moment and found another scope I forgot I had. Which means I have two scopes currently sat in cupboard, so need to sell one. I would prefer to keep the Leica and sell the Delta but both might possibly suit your needs.

First is a Delta Titanium 4-24x50 HD which is very good glass. Mag range would suit your target needs but the scope turrets are capped. You can remove them and the turrets can be easily set to zero and then dialled but you would need to remove the caps. It was sent back to Delta for a service and had both ocular and objective lenses replaced with new and interally cleaned. The scope is effectively as new. I would want somewhere in the region of £600 for it.

Leica Amplus 3-18x44 has just been removed from a spare rifle and replaced with a digital scope, so is also currently not in use. I would prefer to keep it as I expect I will find a use for it. Exposed elevation turret which zero reset and a basic windage reticle (4L-w) which would allow you to hold for wind on your targets. And of course Leica glass for stalking. Would rather sell the Delta but would take £850 for the Leica which is also in mint condition both body wise and lens wise.

Not sure if either of those are what you are after but both sort of quality for a do it all scope. Not that it really exists but I have used both to shoot deer and also shot targets out to 500yds with both so can vouch for their dialling mechanics and optical ability to reliable aim at stuff further out.

Either of the scopes listed by Cottis would fit your needs. The Leica is a fantastic little scope. I have never had that particular Delta. However I have used others, delta are very good scopes.

I’m not a fan of Delta glass, my eyes are the problem i’m sure but it’s why I went for a Valdada over a Delta Stryker on my .308 target gun.

I may be interested in the Leica but I won’t have the funds until the end of March, just kicking tyres at the moment so to speak.

When I started target shooting and used my stalking rifle, I used either a March FFP or a Kahles K624i

Both v good but the Kahles was a great scope first light

The other option I have is to put my Valdada G2 mini recon on the rifle and buy something else to go on my target gun.
