Thanks i may have confiused matters, if im on my belly i hold the rifle. However, my most recent outings only required be to crawl on all fours, and the rifle was lung over my back and basically kept slipping to one side. Its in this kind of posiotn i was thiking of.

Side mount the sling on the stock so it is flat against your back, also use a harpsoe safely strap in conjunction with your normal sling (or whatever Z-aim derivative there is available). Takes the weight out beautifully. This is from a guy who has carried a lot of very heavy rifles up steep hills.
