Best sling for a heavy rifle

Hi all,

I've recently bought a Sako TRG 22 and although I don't plan to carry it around that much I'm thinking about buying a sling for it. The rifle is fitted with underside and side attachment points. I see in the manual that Sako can supply their own sling for the rifle.

Don’t bother with a sling. I find the African style carry works very well with heavy rifles. If you need to carry it further the stick it or on a pack with a proper two shoulder carry.

My Ruger M77 has a custom Sako stock and weighs 12lb and I use a Z aim sling, although they've stopped selling them you can get a Z aim type sling from Deercentral..easy to carry it all day..tried just about everything but found this sling to be the best.

If you can mount the sling swivels on the left side of the stock and fore end then the rifle sits flatter against your back when using a biathlon style sling
Exactly this - life changing after years of raging at a rifle that inevitably swings on a one sided shoulder sling 😂 currently using a Niggeloh Titan.

Any UK sources for the TAB gear slings @Cloudhopper or anyone else? Keen to try one

I got mine from Sporting Services Ltd.

Just saw this thread, i currently have a simple sling which is fine, most of my stalking doe snot involve hiking for hours, will inevitably involve some crawling and i was wondering if there is a sling which will hold the rifle on my back as opposed to sliding to one side or the other as i move.

Looking at the TAB Gear item is looks like it might work i wondered if anyone has any suggestion about best sling to hold the rifle in position whilst crawling

Crawling - I have both bisthalon and multi position TAB slings - simply hold the loose strap in the hand that’s holding the rifle

I have the older 2 inch wide canvas ones with sewn on leather attachment points and find them to be very good does not slip. Got a deal at Franconia for 2€ each, I should have taken the box full.
