BMH advert

Also very possible that the breeder here has bought two BMHs from a breeder who has put conditions on breeding. With BMH the usual conditions are hip scoring and track tests. If the seller here has not had conditions removed there would be no KC registering of his pups.

We hav the same with a Ridgeback
conditions were put on that the breeder had to approove the stud dog before hand if we ever intend to breed from her
( Which we don't)
If stud dog approoved then conditions lifted

No papers, no buy no money. I think thats a crap excuse about not wanting them to breed off their pups. If you have paid for the pup its your property its up to you the owner in my opinion. I wouldnt buy a pedigree pup BMH or otherwise without the papers.

Go elsewhere is my advice.

Malc
I think the very same way and only ever buy pedigree pups which I can verify and trust ,
and plus like you research well before I buy
but also now hav started to see another picture
If I wanted a dog of good breeding and prooven parentage but never wanted to breed from such pup ( As lots don't)
then why pay £200 more for the papers that are worthless to you and the pup in question
unfortunately this world is filled by fly be nights that just want to make a quick buck and charge the earth from the pedigree side
Also buying from a creditable breeder does not mean you are purchasing a creditable pup
research is the key and you will get a decent pup from a reputable breeder and linage
BMH's seem to be the in brand at the mo
so my advice would be choose sensibly as there is not that many choices available in reality compared to other breeds of working dogs
but plenty of reputable breeders out there that can and will point you in the right direction where this breed is concerned

Malc i was not decrying the BMH but in the past with ALL breeds that have been registerd he will the kennel club they have been ruined. The biggest cause of this is greed were people by the in vouge dog and 5 bitches to go with it and charge big money. Its not long before the quality falls as has happend with the Wirevizsla. A dog that i have used for over 13 years. The way to keep a breed free from crap owners is to keep the cost down and make sure were possible your pups go to WORKING HOMES.

I think you will find that in particular this is one of the rules of the Bavarian Hound Club. Dogs must be worked. All apart from one owner that I have met work their dogs. If you go on line and look up BMH you will find that most good breeders will only sell to a working home.

It would be criminal not to work these dogs, or any other good deer dog, not just BMH. But I stick by what I have said, if you want to get the right BMH check the lineage and owners before you part with your money.

There are also plenty of crap working homes aswell out there in all breeds.

From our last litter of 9 BMH, 3 went to non-working homes. Two of these had no previous blood tracking experience, however all three are putting in the time and work to train their dogs to a basic level to begin with, with the intentions of putting their dogs through the BMHS NA test next spring. Who knows, they may go on to become deerstalkers themselves, for love of watching their dogs work!

Show wise, there is little prestige when it comes to import classes. With only 3 or 4 BMH being shown in 2010 and few unrelated importations, the breed is a long way off from ever gaining their own classes! In my eyes, there is more threat of the breed being bred in an indescriminant fashion from the agility world, where a BMH is making a name for itself in the upper levels of competition.

All said, I agree that you need to look what is behind the dog and do your research before purchasing one of this breed. It seems at present that supply is outstripping demand and it is this kind of situation that could lead the breed into the hands of the wrong kind of owner!
