Boretch eliminator does nothing

Hunter 6.5

Well-Known Member
Hi all, running out of the KG decided to try Boretech eliminator and for better value bought a large bottle. The problem is that it does absolutely nothing more than any "liquid". After roughly 400 rounds my 22-250 was in need of deep clean and after half a day of soaking and scrubbing with nylon brush result was almost zero effect (sure will be better if using Kroil only).
Next I've decided to clean my 6.5 before start to work a load for it it's new rifle fired couple boxes of factory ammo. And here I saw something for first time -the bore looks blue . Soaked about half a dozen of patches with Boretech and they comes out clean except first two with very little black residue on them even after left it soaked for 20 mins or so. Does anyone else have had bad experience with this solvent and do you know why the bore is blue coloured???
Any advice will be appreciated

Thanks gixer i suggested the same but if it's a bad batch there will be more users complaining and I did a bit of a surch before ordering and all comments where more than positive even awful lot of professionals using it

Sorry, but after 400 rounds ? Anyway, in my limited experience, no issues with Eliminator, but I tend to use the Carbon Remover then Copper Remover from the Boretech range. If I borescope after cleaning (an alternative to self flagellation) only the very faintest blackening in the rifling close to the lands remains, with only a shot, maybe two, to be back on zero.
Presume you've bought from a trustworthy source ?

I am not a keen cleaner by any means but when i do I use boretech eliminator and find it works really well. Plenty of crud out followed by repeat mops of it and then agitated with brushes and left for 10mins and plenty of blue residue and copper comes out. I repeat time and again with boretech non copper/brass jags until they go clear and call it good for another 150 odd shots. I think it is good stuff but then again I don't look down the barrel. Maybe it isn't working but going on the amount of shite on the patches that come out, I would say it is doing something.

Used Boretech for ten plus years

It works on every rifle I’ve had the “pleasure” of having to clean

Use carbon cleaner and copper separately

Use nylon brushes and agitate the bore with short scrubbing motion and you will not have this issue

Your bore is dirty (400 rounds is excessive bettween cleans)

👍🏻

Hi Malxwal ,yes I have to check my bank as I can't remember right now but it's well known store for sure. And rifle is now is in exactly the same condition as you describe but after one treatment with JB bore paste

Thanks for replying Ronin , that was the very reason to decide on it. Maybe I'll try the two separate parts. I "cleaned" the rifle after every outing but only with Napier to get out the moisture and powder residue using Boretech and Tipton nylon brushes. Thanks again

Sounds like hard carbon. I bought an ex-keepers 22-250 once. He hadn't cleaned it from new. I scrubbed for days, still couldn't get it to shoot any better than minute of deer. Perhaps a hardcore treatment like bore paste would have saved it.

I use Boretech cu2 and it works a treat, not trying to be a clever bugger, but 400 rounds before cleaning is rather excessive!

Thanks for replying Hornet. It was cleaned (lightly) after every use but only few patches with Napier and occasionally few strokes with nylon brush

Well for what it's worth, I started using it (cu2) on the advice of one of America's top rifle builders, one Mr Randy Selby, his advice on a cleaning regime is every 15-20 rounds, now I know everyone has different ideas about cleaning, but I would seriously give it a proper clean way before 400 rounds buddy.

Any suggestions why the bore is blue? The two photos are from my new 6.5 after couple of boxes of ammunition
Because it turns copper residue blue. Sounds like your bore is copper fouled, or worse, you're using copper bore brushes (not the bristles, but the wound wire that holds the bristles). You should be using zinc coated bore brushes, otherwise you'll likely see blue (false indicator) as the solution reacts to the bore brush spine.

Follow the directions (back of the bottle) for Boretech carefully, and you shouldn't have any issues. As @Ronin alluded to, wet patch (x2-x3), then scrub, then let it sit for 10-15 mins, then wet patch a few times, then dry patch. Followed by a lube of some sort.

The order of this is important, since you're trying to break through layers of copper/carbon/copper in the bore, so the solvent can get down into/in between the layers and break it up. Your 22-250 with 400rds is a lot of copper jammed into the bore.

So most barrel cleaning compounds don’t do very much. I mean if you actually look with a borescope. Nowadays I patch with boretech carbon remover leaving it a while then inspect then go after carbon with jb bore paste and kroil. Ten minutes of that in the right place gets it clean especially with cleaning pellets system Alan Rhone Ltd - VFG Rifle Cleaning

blue is copper/ jacket material I think. A reaction from the fouling and chemical I have never encountered this before good luck.
