C50 .. do I really need a nocpix ?

Probably done to death but I’ll ask .. I have various rifles . Do a lot of night shooting my go to for foxing is my 204 Sako stainless fluted set trigger .. .32or 40 grn v max both just kill .. shoot like a lazer. . C50 with sirus lamp .. good for 300 m enough for me at night. Got pard on me 1.7 and me 22-250 . Pulsar key 22 spotter. All works fine foxes very nervous . I am however twitching at nocpix 35 thermal .. 1900 quid sure it would do me. But do I actually need it .. or do we just like spending money on more gear .. thoughts please .. if anyone has the 35 can’t find a real world review so far .. cheers
I have basically the same set up as you.
Tikka super varmint 204
C50
Sirius IR.

The only thing wrong with the above is the weight for freehand shooting. I've added a taller bipod so I can sit with it as it needs some support, i.e. vehicles, high seats etc and its great.

If it ain't broke and all that 👍

I have just gone through something similar. Pulsar Axion Key XM 30 to an ATN BlazeHunter 650.

Tbh the little Axion increased my haul considerably and could detect deer well enough but the BlazeHunter 650 has 100% found deer that I would have missed with the Axion. Deer in thick fog, deer in thicker cover and deer at greater distances. I could quote a load of words and numbers but you can just as easily get all of that from websites.

The bottom line is that the ATN unit has definitely found more quarry and gives far greater detail of what I do detect - so I can ID far better enabling a switch straight from spotter to riflescope.

Forgot to add, with the LRF on the ATN BlazeHunter, I now no longer take my separate LRF and from an ID perspective, I am not saying my binos are now redundant but, they are now less essential in many situations.

lol magpie syndrome is an interesting concept.. I’ll be honest I love my spotter had it years if’s been a game changer and on my permissions is perfect .. maybe c50 still got relevance

Hi eldon,

The ergonomics can be transformed by swapping to a Dark Engine BLADE IR, and mounting it at 45 degrees on a cheap low QR ring mount towards the back of the scope. Done right, it will sit between the turrets and not really increase the overall envelope of the setup. It's so light you won't even notice it's on there.

Mounting further back keeps all the controls in one place for scope and IR too, with the benefit of better performance.

Cheers

The setup is weighty but rarely shoot of hand I have got a trigger tripod . I tend to sit on roof of buggy or high seat so most of the time it’s ok. It’s really cool to get so many responses and think the consensus is the setup up is pretty good. Maybe a new torch or spotter at some point. As for the thermal I’m sure it has many merits but not sure for me or some of you guys… does it warrant the price of my youngest first car I need to shell out for . Maybe in a few years ,,

Just an update I upgraded my spotter to an oryx and it’s a big step forward on the axion key . The lrf is useful although with the 204 at night it’s not really a game changer . I’m still looking at the Nocpix 50h some deals on but I have bought another c50 put it on my 22-250 and upgraded both firmware and the ballistic tool is fun but never really struggle with a little holdover.

As someone said a little while back magpie syndrome.. got some stalking and foxing next few weeks . I’ll try glass / thermal spotter n NV
.. the fox bodies still stacking up this year .. not sure a 3k plus thermal would have added much to my tally . But shines new things are nice !!!!!!

I use thermal binoculars and thermal scope. I've never had trouble in knowing what to shoot. If in any doubt. Leave it. Foxes usually move at night. On rare occasions they are lying in a open field. If anything the ir on a night vision scope caused more confusion for me with grass and cover getting in way of the ir. But am happy now.PXL_20251121_215348580.webp

After owning a few thermals and NV units I had lost a little interest in the next great upgrade, last week I had the chance to trial a NOCPIX S60. I did not expect to be impressed, I very much was out on wet and foggy nights the NOCPIX provided decent visibility, the ballistic calculator worked very well. I thought the optical magnification was a gimmick, until I used it. For me I found it brilliant for a little extra magnification without the pixelation. The menu was intuitive, providing an easy work through, the set up and zeroing fairly simple.

The price tag puts me off, however if I was out every night I would be sorely tempted. As it stands I am tempted to go with a lower spec model.

I will caveat this by saying that it is likely that the Hik and pulsar 60 offerings will do very similar minus the optical magnification.

It is difficult to set a definitive winner without a side by side trial of them all.

The advances in thermal technology are thick and fast at the minute, although I believe slowing slightly. The reality is whatever you buy will be superseded in 12-18 months likely faster.

You dont have to spend 3k for a 640x512 sensor thermal these days, have a look at the Oneleaf Mars MT1000LRF equipped with LRF and BC can come with 35mm (£1100) lense, 50mm (£1300) lense or a 75mm (£1550) lense.

These are selling very well with great feedback

I finally bit the bullet .. bought a H50r .. and have a oryx spotter now. Gonna try and zero it today. Ironically was out Sunday with my c50 shot a deer just before dusk no problems it’s as good as ever . I’ll put the c50 on me hmr , not sure about me pard now been a while since used that. Each of these devices work like a revelation when I first got them. Yet I’ve still got a zeiss on my 243 that’s as perfect as it ever was. Nocking fox over at 300 + metres with ease in the daylight. I sure the Nocpix be amazing for a while . Most I’ve ever spent on a scope. To be fair got an amazing deal n service from Wilde stags .. swillington shooting .. price for H50 was lowest I found and in stock. when ordered was a mix up ., They rang me apologised and assured me delivery new year. Then 20 mins later rang offered me H50r no extra cost. Turned up next day .. blown away with Stirling and mega polite service . I will be using them again, we are always quick to knock but can’t praise them enough .. happy hunting I’ll update on me Nocpix . Happy new year one n all !!
