Hi all
Right, after months and months of waiting I’m supposed to be picking up my new 204 and other bits on Saturday, so naturally I want to put it all together and get some trigger time as not sure when my next chance will be at the moment. But, I’m really struggling finding the cleaning components I want, il be honest I am absolutely useless at all this online shopping malarkey and it’s just winding me up now as what I do find seems to be either out of stock or in America etc. After some reading and asking im looking for a pro shot rod with jag and nylon brush to fit, some patches, and some wipe out tactical advantage. Cleaning barrels ‘properly’ is something I don’t really do at the mo but want/need to start. One problem is I don’t know what threads different things are so what fits what, what patch size I need as they seem very general in sizes. Google searching has led me to uttings for a rod with 17 jag which is fine but the rest of it must be out there somewhere

I’d be really grateful for any links etc to get sorted

Thank you

J

The pro shot , bore-tech and dewey 17 and 20 cal rods have the same 5/40 female thread so any of their jags and brushes for that calibre will work.
You could try reloading solutions or 1967 spud .com to see what they have.

Talking to a proper knowledgable human is often more efficient and accurate than Google. We’ve come to see them as omniscient seers who bless us with unlimited free wisdom while in fact all they care about is ad revenue..
+1 on talking to 1967Spud, always had great advice from them.
But any proper local gun shop can probably sort you out. And they, not Amazon, need our trade.

Is it correct that 1967 spud supports us lot on here
Only in so much as he allows the redemption of vouchers that are won (by others ) in the monthly prize draw.

These vouchers are actually paid for by the Supporters Subscriptions.

OK thanks for that, I had already tried his site on my phone but it just jumped and skipped about, but the missus went on it with the computermebob and it looks like he has what I want to try in stock so il get her to ring him today while I'm at work

Speak to Clint at Dauntsey guns, he is very knowledgeable and will mostly likely have a solution.

Assuming the Op is sorted and will soon be in possession of a selection of new and shiny toys, I’m going to give him a cleaning tip as by his own admission he’s little experience of such:

If you choose to forgo using a bronze brush for the first pass through a dirty bore, always soak the first patch with a lubricating oil rather than solvent. This way you will forgo experiencing the delights of a stuck patch. Trust me in this.

Thanks for all that folks
Just got back and seen your msgs, but while I've been out my lass has ordered it all from 1967 spud and it should be here tomoro?
Thanks for all the names and info, it's a nylon brush I've ordered but thanks for the advice and feel free to tell me what I should be doing and when
From what I've read my idea was to dry patch after every outing but try wet aswell and see what it prefers, then go a bit more in depth after every box or so of ammo?

J

What I recommend is to give it a clean with a good carbon cleaner like kg1 after use. This will also remove some of the copper as well.
You can then give it a thorough cleaning with tactical advantage when needed .

And therein lies the challenge and is why I took the time to post above. What I should have gone on to communicate by way of a qualifying statement within my recommendation for trouble-free cleaning is that of patch SIZE importance and to no lesser extend the orientation of such on your chosen spear point jag.

It's worth spending an extra couple of pounds and buying the proshot "trace eraser " or boretech "proof positive " spear tip jag.

You will need copper solvent, carbon solvent, meths or other degreaser and light machine oil or WD40 etc, brush, jag and patches and you are good to go. keep it clean and put it away with a light oiling. Avoid hot powders and hot loads.
Good luck.
