Capreolus Club - info request

Hello all,

I appreciate its been mentioned on here more than once already but seen a few mixed opinions and varied feedback.

I am also aware that there has been more than 1 dubious syndicate pop up over the years asking for a lot of money for very little in the way of stalking.

So would like to know please if anyone here has any first hand experience with Capreolus Club that can offer advice if it is worth joining or not? I have recently just lost my Sika permission in Purbeck due to a change in land ownership and have just one small farm with Roe left plus the odd invite. I don't do as much as I used to but would like to have some varied permissions to get out to and don't want to spend my free time dealing with the rejection of door knocking and dropping off cards to landowners at random.

I am DSC1, Lantra HD and have had open FAC for stalking for over 20 years. Am OK with their annual subs as advertised and would be looking primarily at the Hampshire/Wiltshire areas more than anything else.

Any advice or info much appreciated. If any members don't want to mention anything publicly please feel free to PM me on here.

Best regards,
Alex
Have a look at Jelen - the right area and similar fees to Capreolus

Cant stand there videos , that Peter Jones comes across as a right arrogant patronising tw@t.
Looks like a posh boys club..
He’s actually a nice guy ,ex-met police, very focused on getting a result- my first ever guide, when we saw lots but no safe shot. It was 15 years ago, so pre-Capreolus, but fair play to him for spotting an opportunity to sell to London-area and other well-off types. I like the videos- well made light entertainment. Beats reality TV…but not for everyone, evidently.

Slimier than a slug covered in grease.

Never met Peter, but can’t take him seriously im afraid as he so resembles Hugh Dennis (who I have met numerous times)

Hugh is one of the wittiest/funniest persons I have ever met - always has has me in stitches.

Certainly would be stalking with a smile.

How can he pass his DSC1 about fifteen years ago a become a expert .Chris Howard who taught him his DSC1 is a expert in deer and hunting .
So are SussexSteve and SikaMalc experts.

Experience pulling the trigger maybe, but there’s a lot more than that, listen to What people have to say, filter, move on, experience different places, ways of doing things, listen,.
This all takes time, some people will never learn, they may pull the trigger lots, but stalk or manage deer badly all their lives.
Years do mean something but not everything.

every time i've seen the 'club' meeting up at clay shooting outings, always been a bunch of toffs..everyone in the area just rolling their eyes and smirking. I think someone noted something about the annual tosspot convention

Great question! How long does it take to become expert? 15 years sounds long enough to me if it’s 15 years of learning and an immersion in the subject. Experienced and expert are not the same thing- to your point. I don’t know if he’s expert - or would describe himself as such. I haven’t spoken to him for long enough, but he had knowledge and experience that he was happy to pass on in an effective manner - to me anyway. Beware of the 20 year experienced “expert” ideologue who has actually about 2 years experience, repeated 10 times, refusing to learn from others and rigid in their belief they are right. My guides are experienced enough to be safe, put me on shootable deer and enable me to enjoy the stalk. I don’t require an authority on the subject.

In my old game, if you had not achieved promotion or a specialism, it appeared (at least to junior members of the office) that you claimed 'seniority', solely on time in the Job.

One of the 'old sweats' (we will call him Dave - for that was indeed his name); would preface every admonishment/rebuke/lecture with the phrase:-

"In my twelve years of experience.....blah blah blah"

Point of fact he had twelve years of service, but no one was ever persuaded by his insistence on 'experience'.

One day, one of the junior members of the office had clearly had enough, and cut across Dave with that immortal line...

"Dave, you have one year's experience and it's twelve years old, now f**k off!"

Some stalkers shoot very little in there lifetime some shoot tons something can be learnt from everyone.Everybody goes about things differently.I’ve been in the company of some mainstream experts or so called and tbh they were embarrassing.Agreed Sussex Steve nice guy great stalker knows his onions and doesn’t bull himself up.Pierre driver another good bloke there are tons of guys go about the job without feeling the need to romance actions speak louder than words. These folk that are constantly on tv and in the mags ect are just spoiling the job in my opinion there in it for one thing what they can get out of it free trips ,free kit, cash ( your hard earned cash ).Folk see them on tv and think oh I’ll go out with him and end up fleeced. And I’m speaking from experience I’ve stalked with a good number of them and I certainly would only go back to a couple two mentioned above a definite.

No one is an expert. Everyday is a learning day. Just as you think you've seen it all, something crops up and proves you have not.
I suppose it all comes down to how long, and where, and how you have been involved in an industry to make you an expert?
