Im not a member of the club, but i have had a few meetings with Peter in the shop etc.

I can only speak from my experience and i have found him to be a fair and reasonable guy.

I find quite often with people who appear on videos, YT etc, it can be a bit misleading, they can be quite different in real life. some for the better and some worse. I find him quite easy to have a chat with and a good enough guy.

I get it, his club isn’t for everyone but i think there is a place for it, if you live in London/ big cities i guess it can be hard to find time to go hunting for permission and it’s probably quite a good way to find other people in the city who have a similar interest.

I guess they are charging exactly what the market in their part of the world will bear so simple economics. That said my eyes are still watering at the cost of a single pigeon day. Based on that the contents of my Jimny on my one and only 100 bird day would be worth more than the Jimny itself!
Sobering thought…..

How can he pass his DSC1 about fifteen years ago a become a expert .Chris Howard who taught him his DSC1 is a expert in deer and hunting .
So are SussexSteve and SikaMalc experts.
Maybe you don't know them all as well as you think you do, or perhaps the fact that you realise that they know more than you makes you consider them all to be experts? CH knows considerably less than anyone that I would consider to be an expert! Very glad that he no longer has any influence in my stalking! We're still working to undo the damage he done! :banghead: Don't know SS but he would indeed appear to know his stuff!

I would contest your view on CH, I would rate him as an expert in several fields. we are all entitled to our opinions, but my experience with CH, once you get passed the gruff exterior he is a font of knowledge and more than willing to share if you have the minerals to ask.

Don’t deny that he knows quite a lot of stuff, but, as Malc has previously stated, experts are few and far between as everyday is a school day. The word ‘expert’ is thrown around too quickly these days. Will never forget asking him a question at a meeting and he told me that he would explain after the meeting. He was in his car and off up the road before I could get out of my seat! There’s a word that rhymes with his surname that resembles him!

I am a big fan of the SD Community but we have lost a lot of really good guys off here in recent years because of all the mud slinging and barracking.
I am in no way defending any ‘experts’ quoted here and know nothing about Peter Jones but just hope we can all keep our criticism constructive.
Remember ‘ex’ means has-been and a spurt is a drip under pressure! 😂
Thanks in advance

Well said. I remember my older sister putting me in my place years ago... she said... "if you haven't got anything good to say about someone don't say it"

baguio I made the comment about C H you have stated a different view of him.
Shows we have mixed views on matters and every one can make there own minds up.
I completed my DCS1 with C H over four days and was going on his teaching and knowledge during the training.
But I am a newbie to stalking and others have many years in the bag over me and different views.

If everyone posted such sensible comments as this ^^^, most threads would fizzle out in less than a page and the SD would be a very dull place 😂

Oh please. That has been said thousands of times on here and was a stupid comment the first time.
For the record: I would class CH as an expert on re-loading. He knows a good bit about roe, fallow and lowland Sika too. However, we have 6 species of deer in GB. To be an expert on deer management you need to be an expert on them all. He isn't!
He's been teaching a long time and providing you're not too sensitive there's no doubt that he will teach you a whole lot. However, I would suggest that anyone teaching DSC1 would also be able to do the same. I think that our training packages and our training is something to be proud of.

I don’t mind chipping in with my experience with Chris Howard many years ago.
Being a Northerner and an ex Para NCO makes him naturally grumpy so I excused him that! We all have our crosses to bare 😂
I turned up at a range day where he was, from memory RCO. I had a new bit of kit, nobody else there had one. I said could I use it. He said ‘if you want to shoot with a bloody tin can on the end of thee barrel then thee can.’ It was one of the first moderators! First and last time I have been a trend setter! The horse had sadly bolted though - I wear two big hearing aids! 🙄🙈🤣

Which also makes no sense. If someone has been ripped off for example, would you say that they should keep quiet or let others know in order that they avoid suffering the same fate?

I’d agree with all of that, the first part was just glib but it makes me think twice about anyone who describes themself as an expert.

I think in the UK our training is admirable but the Level 1 format could be modernised to help students absorb and retain learning. I am an AW and it’s a lot of work (for free for me) but felt three ICRs was better than the new format of one.

There are, of course very few people who have a lot of experience and knowledge of all six of our species and conditions (hill versus woodland etc) and here in our BDS branch we have tried to get people involved with training who are specialists in their fields

Returning to the OP I'd be interested to know why The Capreolus Club and it's sister County Deerstalking offer the (I gather LANTRA approved) PDS Level 1 rather than DMQ DSC Level 1 and what format it follows.

I hear that it was possibly because DMQ were not adding to their list of Assessment Centers.

I suppose her advice was a general comment about everyday folks you know perhaps.
I'm all for letting friends know the lowdown on unscrupulous people you may have to deal with on a financial level. I like honesty.

Not much point in putting yourself up on a pedestal as an expert if you lack the social skills to communicate that to others. Some of the names mentioned are very good at that and one is incredibly bad! From some of the stories that I have heard I am amazed that this person and the organisations they represent haven’t been sued as a result of their abusive nature. I suspect that most people on a dsc1 course feel that it isn’t wise to complain about the person marking the assessments especially as they don’t get the results until weeks later?
