carrying brass from USA

Has any one recently brought any unprimed , new brass back from the USA in their checked in luggage. Is this an item that is restricted ?
Currently in the US and looking to pick up a few supplies.

American retailers won't post it (or suppliers say they aren't allowed to post it) so I'd be wary of taking it back myself.

I brought in hornady heads and brass from Florida a couple of years ago without any issues I wouldn’t think brass would be a issue but dont know legally tbh

Brass and bullets are still banned under ITAR unless you obtain an export licence.

You may get away with briniging them back but if caught it's a Federal Felony offence with some pretty stiff consequences.

Hilarious that they think Raheem and his mates are going to be shopping online at Brownells and knocking out some 7.62x39 in a cave somewhere on the Pakistan border with a Lee Loader and some Hodgdon Powder, Federal Primers and Hornady componets yet Paddy could get his uncle Barry in New York to stick a Barrett 50 BMG and a few hundred rounds on a boat for him in the 80's to have a pop at the Brits on the Emerald Isle... :banghead::cuckoo:

Just buy it here…think customs would **** they drawz if they found it…might cause you bother. Is it worth it?

ITAR last i checked had an exception for personal reloading components. It changed all the time and I would suggest reading the document to check and having in on hand with the relevant section known if you do decide to bring anything back

Don't rely on others previous success bringing items back as that is pot luck in TSA firstly spotting and secondly knowing what is allowed vs not

You can always message the Gov Department asking for clarification on section wording if needed

You can certainly bring presses, dies, powder dispensers etc back, I've even brought a 7L wet tumbler back!

Bullets and brass are still covered though.

"The components, parts, accessories and attachments controlled in this category include, but are not limited to cartridge cases, powder bags (or other propellant charges),bullets, jackets, cores, shells (excludingshotgun shells), projectiles (including canister rounds and submunitions therefor),boosters, firing components therefor, primers, and other detonating devices for the defense articles controlled in this category."

22 CFR Ch. 1, Category III, (f)(1)

It's on the munitions list.

Got a link for that exemption?

You CAN bring brass cases out of the USA - as there is an exemption in ITAR for shotshell cases & some components (wads, etc.), so the CBC Magtech brass 410 or 12-ga or similar would be ok

Check the latest ITAR restrictions as they have a habit of being changed / updated and can catch you out.

If they are currently ITAR restricted it’s a definite no no.
