What kind of distance would you be comfortable at if all the conditions were ideal? And while I'm at it what size steel shot do you use, is it 11mm?

Nothing inhumane about it in the right hands. I spent many a happy hour as a kid with a Black Widow hunting rabbits. A 6mm ball bearing to the head was pretty definitive about putting the lights out.

10-15m is a comfortable distance for a clean humane kill and 8mm steel with the elastic and taper i use im getting 320 fps speed kills lol
 
Any good youtube tuturials you can recommend, sounds like it's something that could be practiced with a few targets easy enough when working outdoors in the countryside.

I have no problem referring to people who leave 50+ dead birds in a pen with heads cut off, having knocked them out of the trees with a "catty", for bets as sick scum.
Each to his own but if the remark describes you than I stand by it. It was never intended to refer to the author of thread neither did it read so.

I just got a new black widow, more for nostalgia than anything , I seem to recall hitting tin cans at 15 yards was easy in my youth , not sure what happened in the last 40 years but I can't hit f all now .Can't get any consistency at all .Not as easy as it looks.

Yeah I appreciate that but it would be a bit of sport to do for a few minutes a few times a day when I'm doing bits and bobs outside my own house. It'd be less hassle than the archery or plinking with the .22 but I'll still keep doing that to for the bit of craic. I find long breaks in between target practice is more productive than doing a full hour or so session.

Why should I not be a member on this site, I'm sure im not alone in saying I've body shot a rabbit only to loose it in the undergrowth

50+ dead birds in a pen, all with missing heads, sounds more like you need to step up your pest control.
(Unless, of course, you've got some footage of the scallywags with the catapults in action?)
 
Was point 50 odd years ago would never go many places out of school without one, hung round the neck to conceal at times, and called a pult, biggest problem been sourcing ammo as got through some and spent much time round gravel heaps. Marbles and ball bearings for special uses only. Shooting at flying birds taught much and woodies on nests stood no chance, horrible little barstuards looking back on it.
