Ceracoating

I purchased a shall we say well loved sako III .243 off our shoot keeper this year as my first stalking rifle.
The bore is still good having had it borescoped by Mike up at Calton Moore range when I go it and it will merrily put down 1/2" groups with my homeloads.

But the blueing is getting quite worn in places and the stock could do with sprucing up. Now a shooting mate can do the stock no issues for me but for the action/ barrel rather than a reblue I am toying with the idea of getting it ceracoated.

Not having looked into this before can anyone help me with an idea of cost to get the action done and any pitfalls/ issues to watch out for before I take the plunge?

Cheers in advance

I can't help with current prices. I had a well used .243 Sako 75 re-barrelled and ceracoated in gunmetal grey by James Clarke, a few years ago.
James made a beautiful job. The rifle is used regularly and the coating remains completely intact to this day.
I think that making sure the person doing it is competent would be high on the agenda.

I've had a Remmy barrel and a tatty 6 x 42 'scope done by James of Jager SA, they both look like new.
Can't remember the price but it was better than other quotes I had.

Interesting as i have a too bright stainless I would be interested in having done.

Totally crap at art so would need to outsource.

Roughtly how long and ball park what does this cost?

Had mine done by Dave Wylde at Valkyrie Rifles . £200 inc bottom metal . He completely strips the action ,seperates the barrel from the action then checks headspace on assembly and services the bolt . Couldn't fault his work.

Tech coat a member on here will sort it. Excellent and competitive, does work for many of the gun shops across the UK.

Many thanks for the advice all. Its well within the range of prices I am looking at so I will start getting sorted out once Christmas is out the way.

On a rifle like that if the steel is still in good condition why not have it re-blued, much nice classic look with a wooden stock, and possibly cheaper than Cerakote. On the other hand James Clarke did my 7x64 and it looks great.

One thing to consider is a cerakote approved (or factory trained) applicator to add to the knowledge it should be done right.

Me and my budfies have had a few done by various applicators, and we've had a few bad experiences.
One was rust appearing under the coating on the action and barrel.
The second was doing the bolt including the lugs...
One I had, the coating came off the bolt handle after 3 weeks....
Another example was the coating came off (flaked) the action and barrel.

I can’t recommend Tac coatings in Hereford enough.
They have done three rifles for me and two mods with quite a quick turn around about 6 days for each one.
your probably looking at between £130 & £200

Just make sure when you pay for Cerakote you get it , unlike what I got ? cheap Duracoat  its peeling off and chips Cerakote won't or should not :banghead: another fine job by JC :stir:
