Chainsaw Insurance?

Local landowner has given me permission to collect firewood on the Estate, however I'll need some sort of Insurance as I'm not an employee of the Estate. Can anyone point me in the right direction for basic insurance, which I suspect would be along the lines of Public Liability?

NFU will do it, its really good insurance but can be pricey, if you search for public liability insurance you will get an online company cheaper, as JCS asks, do you have a chainsaw ticket? as this will affect the quote

I remember 1 guy thinking he will save money buy cutting his own logs. Well, he had to go on a saw course and get a certificate. Then get insurance, equipment, have another person present for safety cover. Pay for the timber. Spend time cutting, when he could have been working, he charged me £120/hour once. To me, he seemed to spend a fortune to save a penny. His logging efforts didn't last very long. He probably came to the same conclusion as me.

There’s something deeply therapeutic about collecting one’s own firewood, plus there’s the added health benefits of splitting and stacking. DIY cost vs buying wood in my circumstance is still considerably cheaper, but I do get your point.

On the same tack, you could consider the cost of harvesting a Deer vs going to the game dealer.......

Yeh, I had only oil heating for about a year. I missed going for logs. I have certificates through work. I sometimes get paid to do tree work and get paid and free wood. I enjoy culling and saw work.

Why did he need all that if he was cutting logs for himself, presumably on his own property?

I have a source of freshly felled rings and cordwood, I log and split them myself (on the weekend as a welcome change from the office). Saves me a fortune in gas as I don’t use the underfloor heating in half of the house.

Wasn't on his own property

Last time i had insurance it was 500 quid and that was a few years ago.

Depending how strict the landowner or his agents are.
By rights they should be doing it exactly how Rem described, always 2 folk, both with licences and insurance ( strictly speaking if he piggy backing on ur insurance u then need Employers laibility even if u dont pay him, complete scam)
Also if tree is windblown u should both have ur windblow ticket ( which means doing med trees 1st)
To be fair some windblow really can be dangerous.
But its all a lot of BS really if ur following thexruke book written by some desk jockey.

Several people died after the storm Gudrun in Sweden then they were taking care of the windblown forest. Suddenly chainsaw certificates, employee status and insurence matters. Crazy need of workers with chainsaws and logging machines even the bad entrepeneurs had too much work.
