Chainsaw question

It is possible, however, is is good for the saw ?

The answer to that lies in what you want to cut, the engine produces #HP (you haven't said what model it is).

Lets say its an MS170, this has 1.7 horses to drag the chain through the material you are cutting. The crank and bearing will be designed with margin to 'take the strain'.
If you put a 16" bar and chain you will increase the strain considerably and the 1.7 horses will have trouble maintaining the correct chain speed to acieve a smooth/efficient cut.
To do that you need more power, ie a bigger engined saw ... something like an MS182 with 2 horses and a thicker crank and bigger bearings or an MS 231 with 2.7 horses.

I'd go for a larger saw.

It’ll be fine. But, why do you need such a long bar? It just makes it easier to cut your boots.

It might not be fine. If it's a little Stihl you'll probably find running a bigger bar will be too much for it and it'll bog down on a full depth cut with anything larger.

Tell us what model Stihl it is and we'll be able to give you a better idea.

As has been said no, and esp so in hardwood.

Is this just a 1 off 2ft stem or are u likely to get a lot more that size?
If u can/will be getting a lot more that size ur probably going to need to strp up to a 50 or 60cc saw.

But if only 2ft why do u need a bigger bar?
I'd probably only use a 15 or 18 to log that.
And i have a cuboard and van full off various saws.

While a 13 is a touch short u would manage fine if u had to.

Just saw it from both sides.
Or if its too big for that u can block some off ( cut ur ring as normal from 1 side then come in at 90 and cut a block off)
Just keep chain sharp

Ps on ur original question u wont get a larger bar to fit a 171 anyway, pretty sure there the open slotted bar mounts, plus only 1 bar stud/nut woulnae take the strain.

In theory if u had a slightly bigger saw u can push the bar length by either going to a skip tooth chain ( only 1/2 the cutters of a normal chain) or using a narrower chain, dropping from 3/8s to .325 or down to a LP or Pico chain on 1.3mm/ .050 guage.
Assuming u can get a suitable bar/sprocket to fit ur saw.

I'd be looking to get a 50cc saw with the ability to run a 16inch bar well and an 18 ok.
Look at a Stihl 251/ 271 or husqvarna 450.
The pro saws are excellent but strong money for occasional firewood.
You might be well served with something like a Hyundai saw. If only used a little bit then it might be ok.

you will bugger up your 171putting a bigger bar on ive cut bigger and wider than 2ft with mine mine is 14 years old and going strong
