cheapest night vision or thermal

A raccoon (allowed in Finland, old gift from Russia) is like a badger in many ways. Easiest to shoot when dog makes them stop. So, shots will then be very close and therefore equipment must be easy and simple. We shoot plenty of badgers with moose dogs and I, myself, then use the handy ATN LTV 3 X which is a thermal in the lower price bracket. Surely you would find one if you take the ferry to Sweden.
Also, wild boars are s.c. invasive in Finland altough they been there since stone age. These animals are much larger and can't be taken with a 17 hmr.
In Finland it is ok to use electronic callers for raccoons. Possibly a good way to get the animals out on the fields but then again shooting distances will probably exceed the 17 hmr.

local clubs have a shared carrion pit we hunt them over in a large clearing in the forest. its like a magnet for them. Also get to see bear from time to time. If i went after boar wich dont currently live in my area (i wish) i would grab the biggest gun i own. Btw, is there any re-zeroing when using a clip on thermal? and dumb question maybe but could they work well with a 1-10x24 lpvo?

Going down the rabbithole a bit now, i realised it would be damn cool to have a night optic on my Vepr RPK. It has a side rail mounted LPVO tho, so less options for attachements.

4x36 diatal? got a couple of those. Or do i not even have to worry about scope glass like that? for instance will a budget vector scope do?
Hello, A vector if you can get in 3X9 or similar 40/50 mm AO or side focus and a Pard add on , I used my Pard on a 3x 12 side focus scope at 4 mag, Once you set up then use the Pard to set the screen clarity, Even a Photon XT if they are for sale there, There are some very good Day and Night vision scope for sale in UK, What do you have in Finland ? Saying this a good Red Hunting torch can work

torch isnt for me, i dont like to be visible to people. Not because i do anything wrong but because iam that antisocial

So how do these add ons work? do they affect zero in any way or can i take them on and off wenever?

are they limited to a certain objective size?

for instance on a 1-10x24 or a 2-7x36. Id like to keep the scope as low profile as possible otherwise, keep in mind its a very small folding single shot gun that fits in a small backpack without the scope and suppressor. Mounting some 50 or 56mm scope on it would make the scope the biggest Part of the rifle.

Hey i ran into a Yukon NVRS gen 1 for 150 euro. How about those? for rimfire range out to 100m it seems on paper that it should do the job just fine? after all i shoot over bait and am not looking to invest more than i need to. There are special lens caps available to make it usable in daylight.

2.5x is fine for my purposes even if its not ideal. Not planning to shoot beyond 100m and at that distance i can even hit with irons.

Hello, As i mentioned with add ons you need AO or Side focus, A low magnification and 40/50mm lens, Once set up you use the add on adjustment, reverting back to using the day shooting you may need to re adjust scope, There are very good dedicated Day/Night/ Night Vision scopes are £250

I today found a nitesite wolf, looks bulky as hell but seems like its easy to install and remove in the field? anyone use those?

the chiappa has a quad rail. Could such a torch go underbarrel? i want to keep everything in one backpack friendly package.
I fit all my IR torches under the barrel, to avoid getting glare from the sound moderator.

I asked the seller about the nitesite wolf, i can have it for 200 euro. It seems popular in the UK judging by the reviews. Also easy to switch between guns. Any reason not to get it?

Also liking the yukon nvrs for being analog and easily mounting on picatinny. But gen 1 might be a bit fragile?

Hello, The Yukon NVRS was my first scope in to night shooting but ratting/ rabbits as i am not a stalker, It worked very well although a tad heavy, Then the Yikon Photon MK 1 come along and it transformed night vision, Then an upgrade version on the XT and RT, They are still worth using if you can find second hand at a reasonable price, Still using my MK 1

hmm maybe i should get both, the nitesite is listed as effective up to 300m. Mostly useless to me but you never know what the future holds. The yukon might sit nicely on my Vepr RPK. Aparantly it only has about 80 meters range?

Hello, The MK 1 might be 80 yards but the XT and RT with a decent I/R torch 100/150 yards

right now iam looking at a Yukon nightfall 3x44.

It says 300y in perfect conditions. but i wonder how it does on a moonless night seeking out a wounded racoondog hiding under a bush. All i need is to see the eyes ofcourse. If you think its a capable device i think il get it. Should make a fun toy.

Are they picatinny only or can you also use them on rings? asking because only 1 of my guns has a picatinny, id need some adapter otherwise.

Hello, For spotting your better off looking at Digital N/V

Hello, For spotting your better off looking at Digital N/V

I am bound to availability here. We are not allowed to use night vision for as many species. Only racoondog dog and boar iam aware of as such they arent a hot item and the used market is rather sparse. A pard 007 costs me about 400 used. For that money i can grab a nitesite wolf and a yukon. and have money left for some ammo on top. I really only need 1 device and for hunting over bait the nitesite wolf seems very well suited. But it would be nice to have something more dynamic, easier to point and shoot basically. And i do like that the analog stuff can function on ambient light when the moon is out.

the nitesite wolf is digital tho, it has a camera that goes behind the scope and a screen on top of the scope. would imagine it would work on an LPVO as well wich would keep the profile of the weapon down without the screen mounted.
