A raccoon (allowed in Finland, old gift from Russia) is like a badger in many ways. Easiest to shoot when dog makes them stop. So, shots will then be very close and therefore equipment must be easy and simple. We shoot plenty of badgers with moose dogs and I, myself, then use the handy ATN LTV 3 X which is a thermal in the lower price bracket. Surely you would find one if you take the ferry to Sweden.
Also, wild boars are s.c. invasive in Finland altough they been there since stone age. These animals are much larger and can't be taken with a 17 hmr.
In Finland it is ok to use electronic callers for raccoons. Possibly a good way to get the animals out on the fields but then again shooting distances will probably exceed the 17 hmr.
