Colouring a heed

Progress report!

This was the head initially.

This was an attempt with coffee grinds, left on for a week

Now with potassium permanganate

I have used potassium before but clearly not concentrated enough, it’s come up really well. The colour is as per a stag that’s cleaned off in forestry which is what I intended.

Now to source some strong bleach.

Good job, however personally I’d have finished getting the skull totally done before starting staining, you’ll have to wash off whatever bleaching agent you use, and water/damp does not go well with potassium, you’ll potentially end up with a very stained skull, so be really careful.

Yeah it wasn’t as I initially planned, but it won’t come white and I became impatient 🤣. Might be leaning towards plan B (matt white paint)

Better to have it off-white natural bone, rather than paint it. Painted skulls look dreadful.

Cling film on the skull in future if you need to do it again - really helps as I find it impossible to not splash the PP around the place!
