Been out quite a few times on nightime forays on my own foxing and come across these guys with dogs,can come across a bit hairy, told them to get off my land as i,m the landowner knowing they haven,t asked the landowner,thankfully its worked so far,dodgy though on your own.

Totally agree,at least headcam is an answer to "false witness" but some poachers: such as those roaming area lamping/shooting from public highway or rogue dog men have no scruples in using lies/violence to further their own ends.As a legitimate,licenced FAC holder,you are normally in a no win situation trying to deal with such situations unless you are,or are accompanied by the landowner and or police.As an aside,and possibly a local problem,on two permissions I shoot on I have been tasked to shoot any hares I see as "they attract people with dogs".I must say the majority of "dog men" I known over the years have been genuine,interesting to talk to and no problem.

its not the dogs fault! the guys who have them in hand are the problem -shoot a dog and be prepared to mark a square out.

Soon as the bogans start to mouth off & make threats like the above I know I have them on the back foot, real hard men don't need to threaten.

Had several incidences years ago with all sorts. If only two I would approach and ask them to leave,have even had "proper gypsies" say sorry mate and go straightaway. But then there are the human vermin who get mouthy, as someone else said they aint hard if they start that,but if there are four or five it's dodgy. The drive to my cottage was easy to find and some threatened they would sort my kids out,net result of that was to train my two dobes to respond to the whistle I gave the kids. When they got off the school bus they would blow it and the dogs would race to meet them. That solved that one but I had a good many confrontations, thankfully resulting in more repairs needed by the opposition.
I was threatened on the phone many times but threats didn't bother me as I always replied "I don't ever make threats I am just going to tell you what's going to happen to you as soon as I see you again". I, in those days could inflict a lot of damage, was in that job nine seasons and never shot a running dog, but put the fear of God into one or two when I found out where they drank. In the end I allowed a very wealthy Romany gent to come coursing with his father during February and when others found out, the bother stopped. I believe that man's grandson now has a gun in the new syndicate and there have been no incidences of coursing since.
