Has anyone recently had trophies imported from Africa? If so what was the cost?
Probably looking at a packing case size of 4 Antelope shoulder mounts.

I have shipped back two separate loaded from SA over the years, then I just did cull trips. The easiest way to get a ball park number is to Google Taxidermists in the area you are going to hunt make a note of their prices for what you believe you are going to bring back, on their price list it will show all the Plains game and the options, skull mount, shoulder mount etc. once you have the Taxidermy price you need to then double that to cover the transport and paperwork SA end, the transport to U.K. and the paperwork at U.K. end, it takes circa 6-10 months to arrive at your house from the date you leave A few years back now but one of my shipments was £7K Happy hunting

Air freight?
It was air freight.

Importing 'trophies' is for the rich and patient - I am neither.

You will be quoted 'something' at Camp. This sounds 'doable' - do not forget that that is just the start. It is the gift that keeps on giving. Everyone who touches it, will charge something.

A lot of people 'touch' your trophy.

I was sorry to leave the Kudu behind, but by way of compensation am having my five favourite photos of the trip made into one long frame.

Additionally, I do not live in a Castle, and would have had nowhere to hang Kudu horns...

Exporters charge by the crate / volume, if you send 1 of 6 trophies in a crate that crate volume is charged...

perhaps if you really looking for the trophy is to team up with member of this forum to share such crates...i have done this many of times...well before COVID...

My first shipment arrived on the door a year to the day that the safari started.
I think it also depends on when they go from the taxidermist, we visited mid safari and the place was full of some amazing work all ready for shipping.

I bring crates back all of the time but usually have 3 or 4 guys stuff in them. Last year I had 2 crates together approx 4ftx4ft each and cost was approx £4K from door to door. They were loaded and worked out about £200 per animal.
If you bring 4 or 10 in one crate cost will be the same as they work out on volumetric weight. You also have to pay the same fees for vet, inspection, insurance etc no matter the size.

It’s Veterinary certicates that now have accompany any shipment of animal products into or out of the UK that have fundamentally buggered up our venison, shell fish and seafood exports and made the cost of European cheeses go through the roof. But as I am frequently told it’s “democracy”.

Cost 2 of us about £2600 to have crate delivered to my door, 15 animals , 2 shoulder mounts, pedestal mount, skulls , skins, rifle bag, book stand 👍

It was about £1800 shipping and all paper work etc, then £782 clearance and delivery
I remember the last crate from Africa.

The cost was eye-watering, and seemingly endless.

Two years in and I get the message that the crate is finally at LHR.

Finally! Then this:-

"Please send £500 release fee".

It really is the gift that keeps on giving.

Utter...
