Cracked Dew Claw

The dog cracked a few claw yesterday about 2/3 the way up. It's still attached at the quick but has twisted. She's not limping but it is annoying her as she keeps licking it. Is it a vet job, or should I leave it to fall off or cut it back a bit to prevent her catching it?

Cheers

Only your vet can say that without seeing it....
this used to happen to my old springer regularly and every time it was a trip to the vets, they cut it back to the quick and quarterised the wound to spot bleeding.

Superglue it back together. It will fall off naturally in time, but should stop it from irritating her for now. Might be too far gone for a patch up job, so if in doubt, vet.
I had a dog who was a real wimp and was a vet job, another that would just chew it off and get on with it.
Best of luck

Back from the vet. He just got his pliers out and whipped it off!! I'll know for next time, a trip to the garage rather than the vets!!

In all seriousness, he said pulling it off with the forceps ensured it broke along the crack, which make sense. Only cost £8 which is fair enough.

As I said I had a dog that would just chew off and broken ones and another that would limp and lick the thing. Ironically the wimp was a Rottweiler, the tuff nut was a terrier.

Exceptional vet, literally saved her life when she had meningitis, but unfortunately I now live a couple of hours away.
