I was lucky enough to have the privilege of stalking CWD in Norfolk last weekend and took a very old buck with a missing eye and the usual torn ears. He was very small and had no fat anywhere, teeth were very worn with cavities so I suspect the end was very near. I have now cleaned the skull and removed the tusks and plan to have it measured as part of an article I'm writing.
I would like provisional opinions from those in the know on whether it will make a trophy (obviously no guarantees ). I have measured the tusks around the outside of the curve from the top to...
Now that the new measuring rules have been in place for a while, can anyone say what percentage of "additional points" are being awarded for thickening of the root, fully closed root and visible incisal nerve?
I recently shot two on the same day. One had completely closed roots, thickening and visible nerve, so was obviously fully mature. The other deers tusks were completely hollow but 25mm longer than the mature bucks tusks.
Unless the additional points are a significant amount the revised system seems a bit of a cock up to me.
