Dailymail death by snacks!!.

It’s funny, as long as folk have someone to blame, they’re happy. Everyone seems to be blaming everyone else for feeding the deer rather and overlooking the fact that it was ancient and past its best . Otherwise I’m sure whoever dispatched it would be getting the centre of the flack..

Shot a few fallow with silage wrap in the gut...how did I know? Feeling the gut in the inspection it was lumpy so a quick slice and the black wrap mass was plain to see. Fallow snacks= haylige wrap

Had an example of this kind of thing when I was a stalker on Arran. An old woman who lived in sheltered housing fed a good young stag bananas every day through the deer fence around her house. It got to the stage that when the bananas were finished it would start to push against the fence. She was told not to feed the stag, but it did not register with her and she carried on. Then she went into the hospital for some reason. The stag was still at the fence everyday looking for his feed. Now across the road from her house at Lochranza there is an outdoor centre. It was used for school parties to go to Arran and study the rock formations. These children would walk along the road to the local shop to buy some sweets and walk back. Eventually the stag realised they had food. So he started to go up to the children after their sweets. To the extent that he started to push them to make them drop their sweets. He was a good 3 year old stag with an heavy 8 point head. For those that know Arran deer, you will know how big and heavy they get. It was reported back to the estate office eventually that this stag was knocking kids about. So at daybreak the next day I was there and he ended up in the larder. Shame really as he would have turned into a very good beast. The old lady did come out of hospital and was out looking to feed him. I told her he had just gone back to the hill as she wasn't around for a week or two. J

General public can contradict themselves when going on about wildlife. Another situation on Arran. At the North end the village of Lochranza is in the deer territory. The majority of the gardens are deer fenced if the occupants want to have any chance of growing flowers and shrubs. This only works if you shut the gates !! One family kept their gates open and were feeding a hind and calf in the garden. Of course they branded us as bad guys for shooting the stags . Then of course at the end of the summer season they would go south again. Gates left open to let the deer out. But this hind never left the garden at all while she was fed. So come Christmas time the occupants would come back for the festive season. What did they find but a dead hind and calf, curled up in the corner of the garden. But the cheek of it was that they turned on us again for NOT shooting ENOUGH deer as they are starving to death!!!!!!! J

If it's the same animal, and I think it is I have driven passed him at the car park a number of times over the years and he was a good age anyway.

I even pulled over once and told some grockles off for feeding him but they looked at me blankly...not sure if it was ignorance or they couldn't speak English!
