Day night scope

What is the best day night scope?

I have always used glass. It'll mainly be used during day(early morning and late evening) for deer.

Occasional night on the fox aswell.

Look forward to feedback. Cheers

It's subjective and what's best for you not for others
Glass ...you need to look thru if can

Then menus and buttons one may like others may not

Traditional tubed or picatinnay mount " block" style.

Inbuilt ir or additional weight of an added on IR.

Current crop
Alpeks 4k
Dnt zulu
Pulsar c50

I have an Alpex A50E - mainly for fox but does the job nicely for the deer as well. However I much prefer daylight and decent glass (I have a Swarovski Z6I) but I do appreciate the 15 or so extra mins first and last light thats achieved with digital.

The best last first light colour image is generated by the Hik Alpex 50. It is a lump though around 1.1kg plus torch. It's capabilities make it worth putting up with.

They make a lite version now with a smaller objective - which may impact upon it's light gathering and image. It is around 600g with the built in LRF.

DNT Zulus is a very good non tubular solution, but if you are used to conventional scopes takes a while to get comfortable with. Day time image is better than the Hik...but in my experience it's last and first light capabilities are not as good as the Hik.

They are making a tubular version but no production model yet.

Pard make the DS and Nightstalker tubular versions. Good image with built in IR source, but not the best at last and first light on colour with very noticeable pixelation.

I have the Pard for LR and WMR use and an original Hik Alpex for CF on my .222 for Munty and Fox. Have used it for my .243 too.

I sold the DNT Zulus as found the menu and BC set up faffy as was app based....but think that has changed.

I may switch to the Apex lite for my .222...depending on trying out a mates' scope at first and last light.

I had a Pard 008LRF on the rim fire which was a good image and good last light/ night capability. The fact it wasn’t a tube type scope design didn’t bother me but I couldn’t get on with the menu/ buttons, especially when dark. I’ve a couple of Pulsar thermal scopes and my brain works with them and the buttons intuitively, in the same way I stick to apple phones as I just know how they work and find android/ other operating systems a nightmare. If I was replacing like for like I’d go zulus but unlikely for the same reasons of getting used to buttons/ menu especially at dark.

Alpex is a good unit if a bit of a lump. If I wasn’t a pulsar tart I’d have gone for that.

I’m getting on with my Pulsar C50 as the buttons and menus are so similar to the thermals. Zeroing etc the same. The tubed scope design also is my preference and it does take less room in the cabinet than a zulus when mounted. Alpex is likely sharper/ better image and has the ballistic stuff, but knowing where the zoom, on-off etc buttons are is more important for me anyway.

Depends on budget a little as well. Some of the ATN (4k pro etc) night scopes with a good IR torch are adequate and available very cheaply. It’s what I use and has been essential (the concept not the actual scope) to getting on top of them at very last light. Heavy and bulky compared to an 8x56 classic but some good features that are helpful.

I'll get shot down for this but I like my cheap and compact Falcon Dark DK-2L. It has drawbacks like no adjustments via app and no recoil activated video. It's very simple to use though and has a great picture . Also no need to constantly adjust focus like the other options.

I couldn't handle the weight and bulk of an alpex 4k but would be really interested to try the small lite version.

If it does the job thats the only thing that counts.
