Dead fox cub photos - PR?

I couldn't agree more with this reply. When I was on PW there were so many times I was told that if i didn't show a picture of what I had shot then it wasn't worth posting or it was Bull Sh*t. I believe that the general public do need "educating" about the real need for Vermin Control but so many times on forums like this we are caught between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea!
Personally I never found the need to photograph every animal I shot and killed while I was shooting, but everyone to their own and I'm really not sure that we will ever find a definitive answer to the point/question of using photos to show the need for vermin control situations as you/we will always have antis going out of their way to find something to complain about !
To be quite honest I don't know the answer, but crack on with what you are doing as long as you are doing it legally! :tiphat:
Morning Pete trust you are well?

You had no complaints' with you magpie trap.

Lots of good points and agree with the last sentence 👍

I never used to bother with pics but I have a few farms where the farmer likes to see what I have been doing so started taking pics of most things a few years ago and find its a good to jog the memory when I look back on them. But as you say "each to their own" :)

Quite right Tim! I had a few farms where they liked to know that I was "doing the job properly" so any foxes etc that I shot I would take back to the farm and let them bury or dispose of the carcasses, that way everyone was happy!

My Tim, that video of the Larsen Trap brought back a few memories! :tiphat:

I personally find the pictures of shot game distasteful, most are done to show off a custom built rifle or their equipment.

Fox cubs, well, it can’t be long until the SD features in various rags looking for news.

There are antis on here as members, and they pretend to be buyers and then back out after they have obtained personal details/name/bank for payment, then target them.

I have had this recently, and I have to say, it’s now where I want to see their ID or address or SGC or FAC before sending my details

I like the SD because it gives me likeminded people to talk to, have a moan, poke a bit of fun, sell surplus things, find things I need, and rarely, but does happen, make friends. Also good for industry updates/legal, but…it’s feeling a bit risky now, esp with FAC renewals requiring to know all your social
Media names - I’ve cut all ties online apart from SD, because you just never know.

As for pictures, I think the moderators should have guidelines or best practice, because it’s the sort of thing that can be used against the shooting community, very easily indeed

Quite worrying regarding the anti, how were you targeted and how was it dealt with? i assume they are no longer a member on here.

It’s happened a few times, so I cannot say which were the perpetrators or which just backed out you see. However, on two occasions it’s been from relatively new members with few posts. Warning signs really.

Whilst I cannot prove anything, after providing details and buyers disappearing, emails would start arriving from dodgy places, some weird, but nothing directly ‘anti’, more passive aggressive like putting name and email on mailing lists of porn sites and thinks like that, phone calls that shouldn’t have my number, things that essentially could seem embarrassing to family and such.

Had some ‘fraud’ warnings from my bank too, but fortunately there’s nothing to come for 😂

That’s the tactic. And as said, not reported anyone as nothing can be proved! But it’s somewhat obvious.

Makes it unpleasant to sell things when you are not sure what people will do with your details. Hence, good practice I think should be to ask and check the buyers details first, so you know who they are. If they refuse, don’t sell to them

How do you make the choice with muntjac does Keith as at last light it is 50/50 she has just given birth or pregnant?
All along from Essex to Lincoln they are in high numbers.
In truth, I find it really difficult - morally, I'd love to say that I only shot fat, heavily pregnant munty does but - in truth I don't. However, I won't pretend that it sits easy with me. To be perfectly honest, I continue to have feelings towards a lot of deer that I shoot, regardless of age or sex. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing neither.

It's quite saddening to read this, but it does happen. It just goes to show that you can't be too careful when dealing with people you don't know!

My two pence worth - no matter what you do,a dyed in the wool anti will be annoyed with you and your actions. Even if you have a cogent argument for your actions or Larsen trapping, fox and mustelid control they will not agree with you.
I'm sure we all have a line that we draw regarding a certain subject, whatever that is,no matter what the rationale from those who do participate in the event, you're mind is made up and no amount of arguments/explanation will change it. Same for antis, they aren't going to "convert" no matter what you do.
Just my opinion.

ive shot fox for nigh on 40 years, and would never shoot cubs or milky vixens, ive had cubs run up to me, lifes hard enough for these little uns, and i dont like the pics on the main page
So what did you make of the Scottish government’s attempt to remove a season for does?
Would you have been for or against if it had meant that on your permission you had to carry out the cull?

In my personal opinion pictures of dead animals on an open forum particularly if they have been shot are nothing more than a nail in the coffin!

Pictures of dead animals should be personal memories nothing more than that, I have no problem in taking pictures for a client but specifically ask them to be kept as personal keepsakes nothing more..

The slow death of shooting field sports has been greatly accelerated by forums and social media and the look at me aren’t I clever brigade.

There is a lot to be said for being quiet and covert exactly as it was in the day before the internet.

So, I will expect a barrage of strong opinions but.......over the past few days there has been photos of dead fox cubs up at the top of the stalking directory home page. Now, I do as much as I can to educate family and friends regarding fieldsports but there are some aspects that are really hard to justify to the uninitiated or those who have very little access to the 'real' countryside.

Personally I find the shooting of cubs distasteful and a vixen in milk even more so - if the cubs are left to starve. However, that is just a personal opinion and I do not have any responsibility regarding predator control and I would imagine those that do would look at it from a completely different perspective - I appreciate that.

Either way, when we could have potential newbies looking in and maybe family members peering over the shoulder, I am wondering if we should be a little careful about those images that could create the wrong first impression?
With all respect Keith a quick google search will come up with loads of images of dead animals which the Anti's can use wether it be LACS or whoever.

I was recently looking into Teckels as I was thinking about getting one and whilst researching on the Internet I came across a few posts from various sites and magazines where there is images of Teckels next to dead animals wether it be boar, deer, etc etc and I believe some of those may have been your dogs that were being used or someone maybe with the same name.
Anyway to and Anti a hunted animal is exactly that no matter how it was hunted.

I understand your post was mostly aimed at cubs but to the Anti it makes no difference what the animal, they just want hunting of any kind stopped and there is thousands of images online they can use not just images on SD

Box clever lol
The up and coming youth (come from moden parents) are not interested in fox cubs just how many phones they can steal

Don’t you just wish someone had the capabilities to rig the phone with even a primer.
Once stolen a simple text would blow it up, much as the Israelis did with pagers.
Wonder how long would it take for the stealing to stop?

What if your ex or mother in law gets hold of the detonate code to your phone 😂

I take a photo of all that I have shot/fished over the years for my own records.
Haven’t posted many and don’t intend to.

Its my personal memories that matter to me and not adulations from others.
That’s why I only have one trophy mounted, the first buck I shot on my first outing, although I had a better one a couple of years later.

Vermin are vermin and thats it whether mature or young. Anyone have a problem drowning a pregnant rat?
This wild dog pup made $120 along with its litter brother...from a long line of calf killers thus it makes sense eh wot!
$120 pup dog.webp

Sounds like you are in the twilight years of your shooting Keith. I've known several keen shooters who start having those feelings, most of them hang up their guns at some point.

I find the YouTube videos of blood & guts flying into the air in the thermal, or a close-up camera of squirrels being shot, then a slow motion action shot played particularly distasteful. It's all for clicks & likes to earn a few shillings.
One guy in America seems to have cameras set all around his garden covering squirrel feeders, he paints the bottom of his pellets so they stand out more in the slow motion shot... I cannot watch this guy.
