Deerhub - Thoughts

Hi all,

Appreciate it is a topic that has been covered before but haven’t seen much recently.

I have changed jobs recently and have a lot less time to go out stalking now, as such I’m holding on to only a couple of very small permissions quite far from home.

I was looking into Deerhub as they have a fair bit of ground nearer home and I’d like to get out stalking a bit more. Has anyone had any experience with the outfit?

I would go down the beating/ fox shooting etc route but just don’t have the time away from work to be reliable.

TIA,

MH

They seem quite expensive for pay-by-the-day guided stalking.

You can probably find someone local on here - I typically pay about £150-£200 for an accompanied stalk and to take a carcass home, depending on carcass weight etc.

Thanks for your reply.

I was interested in their syndicate places, but now you’ve mentioned it maybe I should just stick with ‘pay as you play’ days whilst I’m a little more transient with work.

I must admit when I looked the first time I missed their syndicates as an option on the website, but I was struck by how expensive their PBTD seemed.

On a more general point, if you’re busy with work and family 10 or 12 half day stalking trips a year, and maybe 6 trips to the range is probably a realistic number and at the prices I’m paying that seems comparable with the few syndicates I’ve seen here in south(ish) England - but with perhaps less responsibility and more opportunity to try different things in different places.

I think you’re likely right, I’ll still have 2 small (50 acre) permissions to go out on a whim.

Where abouts are you based?

I've tried contacting deerhub, including applying to their syndicate but have not received anything back for the last few months. Anyone have similar experiences?

Try someone else. Shows how an organisation is run if they don't respond within 24hours.

I spoke with them at one time, the syndicate ground sounded good, but you were only allowed to keep one or two carcasses a season anything else you had to pay extra for, which wasn't for me

Exactly the same for me. Filled out the form some months ago and never heard anything. I've also noticed that the listed syndicate vacancies haven't changed for quite some time, so I suspect that info is not up to date anyway.
