depression / anxiety and FAC

Very moving. Glad to see the outcome from FAO was the right one. Glad to see you have the courage to share your thoughts although our 'English' nature really holds us back. An old mate of mine always had a little saying when things were tough. It was and still is "Keep your chin up". ATB

This is all very true.
Also bearing in mind that a few folk have said "a problem shared is a problem halved" it's also worth considering that, these days, someone's circle of friends may well be internet forum based (as in SD). Therefore, take care when making scathing replies to "personal" type posts on here, as it could well be someone who doesn't know who else to turn to. Just a thought.

Wise words regarding the scathing replies, many reading will have been in the same position and although help should be sought asap not all doctors are as caring, many simply do not have the time or interest in their patients.

As with a good FEO a good doctor is priceless, I have the good doctor just wish I had a good FEO....

well done scots for posting,we allhave these dark times it's very brave of you to tell all ,been there my self and know how you felt, best of luck as they say keep carm and carry on rgd bsa

Just filling in my variation form for a moderator. And it asks about medical history. How long does this need to be brought up on the forms. I've been fine since 2009 !!!

I would write "nothing since last renewal or variation" (as appropriate). I just cannot be arsed to keep looking up the date for my SP30 speeding points.....

Over the last two years i have had it all thrown at me. Two almost unsurviveable illnesses, near financial ruin and not being able to work.
I went from fifteen stone down to nine and had to pack in my buisness and i lost my home which was ransacked while i was in hospital but i was LUCKY as i had a wonderful woman and two fantastic mates that rallied round and helped me at my lowest. I never let it beat me but i am strong in mind and matierial wealth is nothing when you are ill and unable to do the things you love. My constant companions were my three dogs which gave me strength and purpose helped me a lot and i am now on the way to a full life again so there is always a battle that can be won.

A good reply rd a good family and mates can help emeasurably .such a shame I hear on radio two this sunny morning at the death of such a up beat type character who suffered the black cloud of depression Robin Williams rip mork .
regards N

I was recently on a firearms handling course and was told that stress is a form of mental illness and as such an authorisation to hold and use a firearm could be withdrawn. We were told that we were allowed to be under pressure but not stressed. It seems that you are not allowed to be ill or indeed human without risking your authorisation and in my case my job and way of life.

A very open and honest post,to which I wish you the very best of health.

Should any member ever feel they want a chat,i'm only a pm away,i cant offer much advice, but any problem shared will be in the strictest of confidence.

Great post S_S and very pleased you got a good outcome- no, the right and proper outcome.

However, from past experiences, I'm not sure my FEO would do the same.

Does anyone know what guidelines exist around this area?
Who knows how many (often young or youngish) lives and those of their families could be saved by a sensible black and white policy on this.

Crosshair that's the problem there is nothing black and white in depression. how many lives would be saved, probably non , someone who reaches that state of mind will find a means to end there life and those of there loved one,s, by whatever means, the problem is the stigma of depression , which prevents people from seeking help.
