Deterring wasps

Mrs Malxwal has alerted me to wasps setting up home in a flat roof above our bedroom window. Anything the collective wisdom could suggest to deter them ?

i had them inside a stud wall (you could hear them buzzing). I managed to get wasp killer and a straw applicator (like the flip up wd 40 ones) and basically fill the space with death foam. no problems after that.

if you can get a tiny hole into the cavity where they are a good can of death will do the trick. I used the Nippon stuff, but others are available - just make sure it has the straw applicator if you can't see the nest

Something like that https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09RK1DYJN?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2
you can then move the flip up applicator to other cans as necessary.

You need a product that is designed and labeled for wasps.
Most ant powders wont be legal
Alot if products are designed for application to the nest, these may not work because you arent treating the nest.
If you have access issue use a professional.
Contact the npta or bpca for a local

If you have one run a petrol Strimmer with a rubber band over the throttle so it’s humming away. Been strimming out pens for the last 4 days, encountered 2 wasps nests and the resulting flood of workers exiting the nest to deal with the threat and I don’t know what it is but the frequency of the Strimmer must imitate and mammoth hornet or something they didn’t come for me just interested in the brush cutter head and I made my escape with zero stings.
Anyone else noticed this?

Yes, been stung a few times while strimming!

Of course, I need roof ladders to access it...
We had a hornets nest in a gable end last year - big, nasty buggers they were and right above the bedroom. I have a bee suit and still no way I was going up a very high ladder with a can of power so I improvised a solution!

A couple of lengths of plastic water pipe taped onto one of those extending pruner things to keep it rigid and give me control. 90 bend on the end and I squirted a very healthy amount of power into the the bottom of the pipe and taped it over. I placed the top end against the entrance hole and stuck a compressor gun through the tape and gave it a good blast.

There was a second or two pause then a grand puff of powder being deposited into the cavity where the nest was. Took 2 treatments about 10 days apart but that was the end of them.

I feel that wasps are sometimes killed off for no reason - is it an option to leave them if not bothering anything?

I had one in an outbuilding last year, did all I could to leave it but when I needed to drill some holes in the concrete they were getting hacked off so had to go, I used a long broom and broke the nest as I figured they may be able to move elsewhere. An hour later I counted the remains of the nest and area with spray oil to deter them coming back.

I'd happily not bother them, and will review the situation once home. It's Mrs Malx who is in umbrage about the situation. However, our bedroom is uncomfortably warm in Summer if we can't open the windows.

Only thing to be mindful of is wasps can eat through plaster board.
Not what you want to find out at bedtime

Have 2 sets at home at the mo...one in the porch and one in a spare bee hive....

Mate is a pest controller so the porch set are in trouble later...but want to reuse the bee hive so they may escape the same fate. Since keeping bees I have an absolute hatred of wasps...regardless of their potential benefits.
