Soo my calipers are throwing a fit and keep jumping and having to measure like 3 times to try and get a decent measurement so after some new ones

Don't wanna pay silly amounts cos money's tight but what can people recommend

Dry them on the rad (not cook them) make sure the other side is dry and clean then a fresh battery.
other way is a Vernier scale type with no battery's
All my 12 micrometres don't have a battery or my rulers or tapes

I've got a set of Mitutoyo and a set of cheap digital one's from fleabay.
With work our tools we're constantly checked for calibration and the guy that carried out calibration was amazed that my cheap set stayed in tolerance as well as my Mitutoyo.

The reason for me going down this route was to have the cheap pair at home for my reloading and Mits. at work where they were used daily.20241217_220938.webp

I lucked in recently with 3 mitutayo verniers, imperial dial, digital and straight verier for £20 a lady was selling some of her departed dads tools that were taking space in her garage and she wanted them gone.

Have you tried changing the battery? When my calipers start throwing eroneous readings or jumping around, a new battery sorts it out.

Manual old school mitutoyo vernier gauge or the dial version. Tried various digital, the battery was always flat when I wanted to use them. Never bought digital mitutoyo tho.
Always dial calipers for me. No faffing around with batteries and you get a visual impression of what you are measuring. The only caveat is, you need two of them, one for inches and one for cm's.

Buy a pair of Mitutoyos and there's a very good chance you'll die before them
Buy a set of cheapos and there's a very good chance they'll die long before you

Cheers
